A day/week reviewed

Week in Review: November 2017

December 2, 2017 By Annette1 6 Comments

It has been a while since I’ve written a weekly write up.   Things get away from me sometimes, and to be honest…this past month has been a bit of a struggle for me, trying to figure out what’s going on with my body.

Anyways, enough of that though… just what have we done recently?

Today that lad made bread completely on his own (other than my finding him a recipe).

Last night we took a trip out to the KW Symphony.  They were hosting a new subscriber night, with a brass band and snacks afterward.  It was a good time, learning the behind the scenes stuff at the Centre in the Square and hearing fun music.  ๐Ÿ™‚   All three of us enjoyed it.

What else, oh…the lad is enjoying his schooling this year.  He’s been doing some neat stuff with Innovator’s Tribe.   This week he was supposed to make some furniture and he asked is he could make a formacarium instead and my response was “that’s ant furniture…sure go ahead”.  He did a good job.  ๐Ÿ™‚  I wish I knew how to save a picture of what he did for you all to see.

He likes, for the most part, The good and beautiful curriculum we’ve been using for language arts.  It’s got a bunch of different components to it that are pleasing him.
He’s not real sure about the art aspect of it, but I like it…and that has to count for something right?   We studied this artist this week, and the lad got to design his dream bedroom which he had a lot of fun with.    Mykola Bodarewsky;.  Anyways, look up this curriculum, it’s rather neat and its free if you do your own printing.

Tonight the lad helped me finish a project that’s been weighing on my mind but I just couldn’t manage to do.  Hubby helped me pick up the wood yesterday and today the lad and I set about building an end to the rabbitry.  It had turned into a wind tunnel with the wood sides and some of my buns were acting a touch stressed so putting an end on solved that issue.  ๐Ÿ™‚   Would have been nice to frame it all out and add a door but well..that wasn’t happening…so he worked hard and we got it done.  Hubby came out and offered advise when needed so it was great, just great to have us all working together.

What else…. oh well… doctor’s appointments up the wazoo.
A darling mom in law who helped clean the house so I didn’t free frazzled about that.
A sweet mom who came and kept the lad company when I had my MRI.
mmm…hugs from a hubby.
Help from a boy child.
Letters and emails from friends concerned.  Prayers from kith and kin.

I am richly blessed you know… just so richly blessed.  God’s goodness shines through!

Anyways, I’ll be linking up at Kym’s.

Illness Strikes!!!!!

September 23, 2017 By Annette1 6 Comments

My goals for the week: Work on the trailer, cleaning the living room and keeping the learning going on.

Over week overall:
Hubby spent about half the week sick.. fighting off some bug that I think ran through my system REALLY fast on Monday.   Son is fine just acting tired-ish.  I should have known something was up when I could eat on Sunday but liquids had a problem staying in my belly.  ๐Ÿ™‚  Otherwise I felt well and was fairly productive.

Monday: Off to London, we did stuff but my gut was not happy so … we headed home a bit earlier as hubby had a meeting to attend, and I just wanted to be home.  ๐Ÿ™‚   Gave my head a really solid bonk today which left me with a lingering headache.

Tuesday: Good day.. worked around the house cleaning and organizing, the lad worked hard on his schooling and got done fast. Did some grading.  I listened to a book on the “Five kingdoms” while I worked.  Kept me quiet while hubby rested… it was a grey day as well so it was good to keep busy.  Headache persisted but wasn’t debilitating.

Wednesday: Foodbank in the morning, the lad again worked hard and had everything done except his on-line stuff by the time we got home.  The foodbank was really slow which allowed him to focus on his schooling.

In the afternoon I went to the library and managed to pull nine reviews together. WOOT WOOT!!!!

In the evening I took him to karate since Dad was out of commission.   Worked on rabbitry website rather later than I had planned.

I think I’m falling in love with a cutey from Bonnet.  Such a happy friendly kiddo…even at two weeks.  My luck though, it’ll be a buck and I need another buck like I need a hole in my head.  Bonnet is the best doe though…..

Thursday: We had planned to go to the plowing match but dad was not well so we stayed home and did other stuff.   School and work and what not.  Did some grading of papers and made some biscuits I think (were very salty).

Friday: the lad has a research project due and I’m still hoping he’ll get her done today. Dad is still feeling stiff and achy so the plowing match was a not a good fit today either.   I cut the reflectix sheets to cover the windows in the trailer.  I hoped to get the trailer done today but it’s rather hot out and I’m easily tired out today for some reason.

The lad did his schooling differently today than planned, Fridays are our “do it differently day” so the lad decided his STEM project would be working on his crossbow (good project) and he did his research project later in the day).  He was busy learning all day so we called it good.

The lad’s not entirely thrilled with his efforts, but says “I can do more research mom, I made it so I can just undo this and this and this, to try something different if this doesn’t hold up.”

Saturday…well who knows???  ๐Ÿ™‚  Well, hubby was still feeling off so tramping about the Plowing Match again wasn’t on, so the lad and I worked on organizing the “bug tent”.  This is a small shed I built for all his bug stuff so it wasn’t cluttering up the house.  It holds more than his bug stuff now, but it still works really well for him, though at times I think about moving his shelves to the tool shed and moving the tools into the bug shed.  ๐Ÿ™‚  Took us about an 1.5 hours.

All people that on earth do dwell.. hymn study.

School continues!

September 16, 2017 By Annette1 6 Comments

This was a good week that turned out a tad different than planned.   Though not written on the calendar, our Friday happened on Thursday, and our Friday was very scattered in our approach. Book Study didn’t happen with gramma due to my not having the book to hand.   For geography the lad is doing a study on Red Tides.  And for science he started a study on Atoms and Molecules.

Monday:
Our typical go to London day.  Sold a bunny.   Did some shopping and puttering about.  OH!   We also went to the Mandarin to celebrate Gramma’s Birthday.   It was a good day.

Tuesday:
Hubby has a interview this evening for a job!   Yay that all the technical stuff worked the way it was supposed to!!
Cleaned the living room area..moved the birds from one side to the other, tidied up “that corner” and found a bunch of stuff I don’t need!  WOOT WOOT!
The lad did his schooling and then cleaned his room “Mom, going to clean out my closet” which morphed into cleaning his entire room and saying “I’m not moving this” to a lot of items. Took him all day, he was bushed by the end of it, but not too bushed that he couldn’t make a new axe.   This one is called the “chop’em stick’em, hook’em and pull’em” after a weapon in the Brotherband series.

Wednesday:
Foodbank.  The lad schooled, helped with the delivery, I organized shelves.
Made buns and beet jelly, I cleaned up the living room a bit.   Kept busy.  The lad went out ant hunting. ๐Ÿ™‚
Evening Karate starts up again.

Thursday:
Out to the Western Fair after the lad finished most of his schooling quick quick in the morning.  Admittedly he didn’t do math or Compuscholar.   We headed up a bit earlier as the lad wanted to buy test tubes for his ants, and Hubby needed to pick something up at the “make your own beer” store.

Anyways, once all the errands we run we hit the fair and had a good time.
One of the quilts we saw.

We had fun!  To read about our adventures go here.  Though I didn’t include how I dragged the lads off to watch square dancing for a while.  I found it rather fun, they.. well.. were very good sports.  ๐Ÿ™‚

On the way home from the Western Fair we picked up the bunny that I had sold on Monday.  Turned out their other rabbit was a male instead of a female, they didn’t want babies and didn’t want to neuter their buck.  So this girlie came home again.

Friday:
I had originally planned to go to a museum today with the lad but given that I didn’t get up and busy until about 1000 a.m…. and the lad was only up about 1/2 hour before I was and hubby wasn’t much brighter either… we decided a stay at home day suited us much better.

The lad and I worked on a Star Wars review (two different ones actually) then we talked about his research project where we discovered that I had carefully delineated my expectations… so he’s got three projects in his head and I need to print off my expectations for him so he knows what to do.   I said next week is fine.  ๐Ÿ™‚  And it is, gives us time to talk and learn and experiment and that’s a good thing eh?

The two fellows worked on a budgie nestbox now that we have two budgies that like each other living together.  The lad is hoping to get baby budgies!!!!   He thinks that might be a touch exciting.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Saturday:
BUSY…first thing, karate class.
Then off to Camp Shalom for their fall fair.   Bought food, did some visiting, found a corelle bowl in the rummage tent and the lad some foam for projects, it was a successful venture.  Jim picked up some wine bottles from a friend.

Off to the St. Jacobs Market to get some fruit to make jam… thought I’d try my hand at peach jam.

School has started!

September 9, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

Our school year is kicking back into full time, but for this first week… not a heavy schedule.    I changed up how I do the schedule this year.. putting in a column that covers everything I want to cover this year, then I can write on the individual days what needs doing.

We always change it up even after I type it up.. for instance.. Writing Radar he wants to do five days a week (go figure he likes it!!!)

This first week though we have stuff I want to get done though, ergo needing the lad’s assistance, ergo a less heavy schedule.

For instance, we cleaned the garage out so we had a whack of garbage to load into the van.   I’m going to get rid of all the metal lying around the house and yard, and I want to get the trailer done and put away, so needing to cut new carpet and mold the reflectix panels around the windows, put in the clean dishes and just get it all organized again for traveling camping in the fall and next summer.  The lad can help with this and still get his schooling done and research project for the week done.

Things accomplished this week:
I made $25.60.  Doesn’t seem like much until you think.. If I had to bring it to the dump… $60 OUT of my pocket to dump it.

The Lad did some learning, and checked a few things off the schedule above.  BUT he also kept himself busy with making fire starters, candles and ant farms.

See that big bare patch of dirt?   That used to be filled with steel, wood bits and other stuff that tends to accumulate around the yard of a house.  WOOT WOOT!   Got that cleaned up!!!  In case you are wondering…the cinder block has since been moved as well.

What else… Oh…. we got the garage most cleaned.  I emptied a closet from the guest room, did the regular household stuff, did some blogging ahead and more stuff.

It was a busy
week, but not overly stressful… God blessed us with a goodly amount of
rain that kept me from overtaxing myself!

One of my joys this week was holding a newborn baby bunny.

As you can tell we did a lot of physical work this week but I also found time to work on the blog.

Posts you may have missed:
Field trip to Gettysburg national military park.  from our time in Pennsylvania.
Poetry of Work.   five minute Friday post on word prompt work.
Pearl seeker: I gotta be me. book study on Being a Pearl Seeker.
Devotional on Romans 11:1-10.  Grace would no longer be grace...

School? No School? Our week…

August 12, 2017 By Annette1 4 Comments

Ah.. it’s an hectic week this week.  ๐Ÿ™‚  Too much busyness going on.. I need a quieter week eh!  ๐Ÿ™‚   I really do.

As I said, it’s been a busy week, let me walk you through it eh? ๐Ÿ™‚

Sunday:
The lad and I go to church cause dad found sleeping an optional choice until about three hours before church began.   He was miserable the rest of the day and didn’t eat until almost 9 p.m.   So instead of going to the Pinery we took care of dad.  The lad, much to his delight, on his walk out of the house found a queen ant!

Monday:
Normally our day to go to London BUT Tuesday is my birthday and wanted my sweetheart to take me out for lunch so we’re going to London on Tuesday instead.  We took a wee bit of time to work on our lapbook of inventors from Journey though Learning.  We studied up on Benjamin Franklin.

Afterwards the lad took himself out for a walk again (and found another ant), and then busied himself for the remainder of the day looking for items he needed to build an ant home (to the extent of biking all the way across town to go shopping at Rowe’s).   While he worked away, I secluded myself in the basement clearing out a corner that had become VERY messy and was drying me crazy.  ๐Ÿ™‚   While I was cleaning I also did the laundry and ran the dishwasher at night.

Hubby tried to get himself going again today but moving around ended him with a massive headache, so he still fighting off something.

See Look!   I have potatoes!   I never plant seed potatoes.  I just plant leftovers that are getting soft and growing from store potatoes.  This year the lad planted them in the garden and had WAY too much fun doing so…We got at least five times what we planted and it’ll do us well and we even shared with others. ๐Ÿ™‚

Tuesday:
It’s a birthday day!!   Mine!   Can you believe that I am 52 already!!!   With a 12 year old boy!!!!   I know.. time flies by so quickly it blows my mind sometimes.  Today.. lunch out!  Woot woot!!!

Wednesday:
Foodbank in the morning.  We had a lot of people on today so I sent the lad home early so he could sort out the taters for a lady needing some.

Afternoon: working on inventors, doing some baking from Everyday Cooking.

Thursday:
Birthday lunch out with my mom!  ๐Ÿ™‚  Had a good time with a visit afterwards.  We had chinese buffet.   It was a lovely time together.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Friday:
Point Pelee to visit some friends.  Oh my oh my we had a great time!  ๐Ÿ™‚   We really did.  We laughed, we biked, we talked, we ate.  Just fun!

Discovered the free hub on my bike was fritzed so hubby is going to work at fixing it sometime but it’s all good.

Saturday:
A day of tiredness.  It was a LONG day on Friday driving for two hours there and then back again (through a lovely wild thunderstorm that was at times alarming).  Found out after the fact there was a tornado close by.   BUT God kept us safe.   Tired boy, tired mom, wide awake dad.  ๐Ÿ™‚   I had a headache most of the day with little energy.

Place: some to hold dear.  This was a poem based on our fun camping at Grundy Lake. Word Prompt post for five minute Friday.
Parenting Series: Rest.   Depend on God more, Find more Joy.
Art Book: First Book of Canadian Art.   History of Art in Canada
The Delight vs The Captivity. Devotional on Rom 7:8-25
Back to School Blog Hop Intro post.
Marriage compared to the law.  Devotional on Rom 7:1-7
Review: Round the world quiz book.
Recipe: Gooseberry Jelly.
Slaves to Righteousness.  Devotional Romans 6:15-23
Hymn: Shout to the Lord.

Blessings in Abundance

June 30, 2017 By Annette1 10 Comments

When I saw the word blessings this morning you know what I immediately thought of?

My day yesterday.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Seriously.

It was a rainy/cloudy type morning so we kinda honestly vegged.  My lad wanted to watch Harry Potter movies and since he was motivated and finished his summer schedule early we did!

This was so  nice, spending time with family AND I was able to finally start the book of Romans.

Later we headed out of the house because he had a birthday party to go to.   He chatted the WHOLE way there rather than being stuck into his tablet games.

I dropped him off.
Then headed out to visit with my mom.

We had such a delightful visit.  Seriously.
We chatted about this and that.  Serious moments, light hearted moments, just good time to visit. She took me out and got me a purse, wallet AND supper.  ๐Ÿ™‚

She even let me borrow her camera so I could take pictures of a small children’s book for a review (it’s coming), looked through it and gave me her comments.  Then she kept it as a gift for a wee niece of mine. (daughter of a niece).

Picking up my lad again I had a chance to chat with the birthday boy’s mom.  So nice to get caught up again.  I was reminded about how I need to take more time to visit with friends.

Then on the way home my lad chatted all the way home again.  It was so nice to talk with him, hearing about the things he’s learning about, finding out about the party he was at and all the good things that happened there.  Just delightful.  We don’t talk enough sometimes I think. It’s so easy in the car to plug in a story to listen to, that we forget to just chat sometimes.

When I got home and after I got him settled, I was so wired from the day that going to bed seemed hard and then a friend contacted me (two actually).  One with a request that I was able to fill… which made her happy (which made me happy), and the second was a conversation with another friend (who is close to my heart).  ๐Ÿ™‚

My heart was so full of the blessings of God.

In the comments… let me know what blessings you’ve received lately so I can celebrate with you eh?  ๐Ÿ™‚

This is a five minute Friday post. the word prompt is brought to us by Miss Kate over at Five Minute Friday.  What is Five Minute Friday?  Well it’s a party of a group of like
minded folks who gather on Friday to do a five minute free write around a
singular word.  AND THEN (and this is the most important part) we take the time to offer up encouragement to
each other on this writing journey.  It’s fun, though it’s not always
easy, but it is always good.   Come join us won’t you?  You are always
welcome.

A Pictorial Visit June 17-23

June 23, 2017 By Annette1 4 Comments

Our week in pictures.   We had a busy week, I thought I’d share it a bit with you.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Saturday, A Yard Sale.  I had a whole lot more pictures, but I deleted them from my phone after the sale because well.. 90% of the stuff was either sold or donated.   It was a tough day with people being extremely frugal this year… made me feel very annoyed.  Bargain, but don’t be rude.  Had some highlights in the joy of a fellow discovering our very old cooler and tent.. just when he needed one.  ๐Ÿ™‚  The grin of delight in a lad discovering a dinosaur toy.  The pleasure in a fellow finding a whack of beat up candles perfect for his needs.

The horses.   I’ve been watching the foals a lot this week.  I’ve nicknamed them Braveheart and Momma’s boy.   This here is Momma’s boy.  Never find him far from momma, while Braveheart explores everywhere he can and boy…can he run already.

Reviews:  I’ve written a lot of reviews this week.  Trying to push through books I need to get done as I’m going a book sale this week and I want to see if I can move some of them into new homes.   The most needful review was UnLock Math as it had a deadline.  ๐Ÿ™‚  Good program by the way, go read my review if you’re looking for a math program from grades seven and up.

Laundry!  Despite a lot of rain this week I managed to get some laundry done.  Hung much of it outside despite my lad complaining it makes the towels all scratchy. ๐Ÿ™‚

Gardening!  We’ve been busy working on the front garden (I call it the kidney garden cause of the shape I made it in).  I do it up every other year really well, digging out the weeds, moving plants and what not.   Since we’re moving this year I really pushed myself to get it done.  Did it over two days though rather than trying to get it all done in one day.  My feet HATE me when I push too hard.   See the difference?   This was day one.

While I was working on the day one of the garden my industrious lad was given the task of rebuilding our outdoor fire pit.   I just said…make it bigger and better, the design is up to you.
The end result:

That took up our Tuesday and Wednesday.
Thursday was our anniversary which took up out to London where I sold these two younglings to a pet store who were delighted to have them.

Hubby and I went out to lunch to celebrate our anniversary.  We planned to do some shopping but my body decided it would rather NOT do that.   So we headed home after picking the lad up from gramma’s house. Dinner out was very nice.  15 years it’s been for us.  They’ve been great years for the most part and I have a keeper in a hubby that’s for sure. ๐Ÿ™‚   So happy with him.

Friday…oh what are my plans…I’m getting ready for a book sale (on Saturday) so have been emptying my shelves rather drastically.   My criteria is pretty simple.  Do I want to move this book?   If not…out it goes.  I’ve discovered books I didn’t even know I had!   Most of what I don’t sell will be going to a thrift shop (there’s a bible for missions store that I am sure will be happy to get them).  If not there are several in the area I can choose from.  I’ll be giving some away as well as I just want them GONE.

Well I think that’s it… I’ll try to update you again next week too…but we’ll see how the week goes eh?

Oh for schooling the lad is officially on summer schedule.
That means.
Three days math (all summer). He has a choice between Kumon, Smartick and UnLock.
Three days History (until program is done).
Language arts (two days a week).
Friday (make a kit, do a STEM project, art etc)
Reviews only as necessary.  (usually fitting these into one or two days a week).

Reviews

Art book: Dangles.  Gemstones as the basis of flair in drawing.
The Dolphins of Shark Bay.  Really really liked this book.
