I’ve only got a wee bit of time as I’ve been called into work today. Miss Kate provided the word Prompt Complete today. I got to thinking about the busy week and a conversation had last night and thought, hmm, it think that’ll work! After all, it was a good day to end a day, a way to see another day complete.

Another Day Complete
I stood last night
Mosquitos buzzing around
Slap, brush
Picking ground cherries.
Listening to a good read.
Silence all around.
Then
Bark! bark!
“GET BACK HERE!”
Came the holler.
I looked up to a familiar sight
The neighbours
Naughty black dog
Running where he wasn’t
Supposed to be.
I smiled.
I shut off the story,
Knowing what’s to come.
Soon enough
Black hair flowing
A quiet temper seething
My neighbour
Her continued struggle
Dog contained
We chatted as we’re apt to do
I told her hubby’s
asking price for the old truck
As her boy has been curious.
She looked harried so
We talked about busy weeks.
I mentioned the new job
and asked her
“How do you manage it all?”
and “I find it a challenge”
“I’m amazed at the women who do”.
She smiled.
She said “we all learn to cope”
“Things can’t be perfect”
And “It will come, give it time.”
And so another day complete
We both turned to our doors.
Satisfied in small connections
Back to being
the women we are.

Great capture of the moment, Annette! Thanks for sharing your evening encounter with us.
You are most welcome
Lovely, Annette!
Thank you. 🙂
It’s true things can’t be perfect. I’ve had to learn to let go and focus on what matters most.
Loved your slice of everyday life!
Thank you Jerralea…. we do need to mind where our focus is don’t we?
Beautiful way to show life in its truest form – being living from moment to moment.
Thank you
This is so good, Annette, and the verse about the naughty black dog made me smile.
Each week, I keep thinking, “this poem is your best,” but I think this one really is.
Thanks for sharing that glimpse of your day.
Visiting from #27
I’m glad you enjoyed it. It was a fun one to write. 🙂
A sweet glimpse into your day. A small connection but a good one, I sense. Good neighbors are a blessing – even if they have naughty dogs! 😉

Very true Kym. They are good neighbours… noisy yappy dog and all. 🙂
