Prove It To Me

May 3, 2025 By Annette1 2 Comments

A busy day for hubby and me.  Running errands this morning.  Hubby took me into his new job this morning as they sell grass seed there super cheap!  I got to see his desk and everything.  Rather a nice set up and it will be warm in the winter (no need for a space heater).   Anyways, it was a fun trip out.  Then an emergency phone call.  “MOM!  I need the car!  How can I get it???”   He drove the truck to us so he could run out with the car (much more fuel efficient).  All this meant hubby and I spent the rest of the day at home.  We got the pond looking in much better shape.  Team work makes the dream work eh?  🙂   Gave me time to ponder this weeks five minute Friday word.   I came up with Prove it to me.

Image of blank labels. Text of Prove it to me

Prove it To Me

Prove it to Me, it’s my demand
So many opinions divide this land.

Is Carney good? Is Poilievre evil?
Is Trump demented or some kind of weevil?

It’s my fence or my camera don’t you see?
You don’t need any privacy!
Don’t mess with my stuff, it’s the land of the free!

You have a house? Great stuff!
Moving in, won’t move out less in handcuffs!

God’s not dead, no he’s alive,
God is dead, fake stories thrive!
How do we prove it, will faith survive?

Giving labels to people helps them get service.
But too many labels is bound to make some nervous.

To “Karen” or not, it’s a matter of perspective,
It’s so easy for people to laugh or get mad irrespective.

Labels, name-calling, partitioning off,
Prove it to me that it’s all necessary, lest I scoff!

Can’t people just be people no matter how small,
Can’t people be people with no need to bawl.
Sometimes it all just seems like too much gall.

But God

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD.

Isaiah 55:8-9

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

2 Chronicles 7:14

There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 3:28

What Might Is

April 26, 2025 By Annette1 3 Comments

Hey there! Exciting news—it’s Five Minute Friday once again! Yes, I know I’m a bit late, but Saturday is certainly better than missing out entirely, right? 🙂 This week, Miss Kate has inspired us to write about the word “might.”   Let’s discover what might is today shall we?

It’s been a fulfilling week. I’ve planted seeds in the garden, carefully moved Rose of Sharon bushes to keep them safe from the cat, and prepared the outdoor cages for the guinea pigs. I’ve even witnessed new life emerging in the rabbitry, and I’m thrilled to see radishes sprouting through the soil! Life truly is marvelous when we take a moment to appreciate it. Don’t you agree?

What Might Is

Perhaps I will, perhaps I won’t; I might go through with it, or I could change my mind. The possibilities are endless regarding what might happen. Consider all the alternatives and realize that even all the “might-bes” you can think of may not occur, and something entirely different will. One never knows the outcomes of an event until it has concluded.

This week, I had a conversation where I asked, “Might I call you Vicky or do you prefer Victoria?”.  A polite asking of the parameters of a name given.  Ensuring no offense given if an error occurs.

The government wields significant power, drawing strength from its size, authority, and determination. In many cases, this power is beneficial, but it can also stifle the little guy. While rules and regulations are essential, it’s concerning when the mindset becomes “I can do this if I want.” For example, enforcing speed limits and ensuring employee safety are positive roles for the government, protecting us all. However, using power to strip away someone’s livelihood in the name of political correctness is a troubling overreach that should be challenged.

Might is shown as the athlete sails over the hurdles, not just winning but astonishing the crowd with the effortless grace displayed. In old footage of “Big Red,” Secretariat, we witness a horse exuding pure strength and determination.  Might is confident strength!

Seeing Christ’s Might

What might is seen as Jesus willingly died in our place.  A difficult decision that brought him to tears, a pleading with his father, and the humility in “thy will be done.”   The might seen in a man who doesn’t let pride rule the day.  The surrender by Christ to be more than a man, to be God’s son in obedience to death on a cross.  It’s a power we need to see clearly.

What Can I Do Without?

April 19, 2025 By Annette1 5 Comments

So, I’m learning alot about myself as I continue to recover from two nasty illnesses that wreaked havoc on my respiratory and digestive systems.  One of the things I am learning about is what can I do without?   I figure that fits well with today’s word of the day so let’s get on with it eh?

what can I do without? text over picture of a pork chop dinner.

What Can I Do Without?

What can I do without?
The list seems to be getting longer. 🙂

I can do without chicken and turkey
and fruits and veggies.
The smell of ground beef continues
to make me want to gag.

I can do without having tons of energy
making do with bits and pieces
and still managing to mostly get
everything done that needs doing.

Doing without long trips on the road
no fear of not finding a bathroom
on time, or having a body cramp up
from sitting too long. Easily managed. 🙂

I can do without the shame of having
to ask for help lifting something
at work when my strength says
“Oh, not today dearie”.

I can do without feeling bothered
by the tiredness of just living
life, when a lack of desire to
eat lives me with little in the tank.

And throughout I can enjoy
the lack of pressure, the steady comfort
of a hubby saying, “meat is better for
you anyways, try making it this way instead”.

I can shake my head at some of the foolishness
of worry and what ifs and realize
that even if my body decides this is
permanent, I’m still alive and enjoying life.

Laughter comes easily.
Love for critters continues.
Work is possible with a some tweaks.
Conversation is vital. Weight is easily lost!

Gardening season is at hand. Flowers bloom.
The cats make me laugh loudly.
Grocery bills are lower! Savings dollars good.
Voting is done.  It’s good I love Pork!

Church family is welcoming
and surprises with the care.
God continues to say “Hey kiddo”
and I got to see my faraway sister!

Much is life to enjoy with makes
the theme of
what can I do without?
So much easier.

Can I be Persuaded?

April 5, 2025 By Annette1 9 Comments

Five Minute Friday is upon us again.  This week the word prompt is persuade.  I got to thinking about my son and how he is resistant to the truth of God. He’s been influenced by those who like to twist truth to present their own arguments.  So I’ve been reading and trying to understand truth so I can present it to him in an effort to persuade him to look harder.   In the process I’m having to answer the question myself, Can I be persuaded to see truth again?

Can i be persuaded?

Can I be Persuaded?

Can I be persuaded?
Too more seriously take a look?
just what is this mystery?
What’s the deal with this book?

66 books, all inspired so they say
by one God up above, he had a lot to say.
39 books of ancient history, poetry and more,
27 books of new history, starting 2000 years ago.

Consider this, how over so very years
the message aligns from start to finish.
With some variation in style and words
the message is clear, God spoke his word.

A word became flesh, from beginning to end,
a promise made, proving the word true,
as it was promised and shown throughout
the written word.

So many copies made verifying truth
Copies upon copies so that comparisons
can be made, showing the truth in words written
more verification than ANY other book written.

History speaks through church fathers,
folks who knew what was written and by whom,
showing truth that time might muddy the
waters of, the truth of books written.

Vacant in different ways

March 28, 2025 By Annette1 4 Comments

Vacant is a word to be described in different ways.  A mental outlook, a space, or a position.  How many things does the word vacant draw to mind you?  Does it give you sense of satisfaction or hope, or perhaps leave you with a sense of emptiness?   Join me and other five minute Friday authors as we explore this word.

text: vacant in different ways

Vacant in different ways

vacant
empty
available
absent
flat

after a night of no sleep
reacting to the world around
has me feeling flat and empty
like it doesn’t really matter
and nothing can impact me.

a spot is open, the cats are
delighted as it means for them
a place to defecate and urinate.
I’m not impressed but they are determined
that this garden vacancy not be in vain.

a spot is available, a position has opened up,
would you like to apply?
a job-searching hubby is delighted
and finally accepts a new position within the
same company so no loss of benefits realized!

a mistake noticed in the fog of sickness
a doe due, and an empty nestbox waiting to be filled
was given to the wrong girlie. A Sad loss discovered
as a doe looking for a vacant nestbox could not
find one. Sickness sucks.

a empty tomb
a promise held
death defeated
Sin has no power.
hope abounds.

Engagement Means Commitment

March 21, 2025 By Annette1 10 Comments

so this past week the whole family got sick to one extent or another. All with varying degrees of symptoms running through our bodies.   Hubsters and I had plans for a weekend date which looked like they weren’t going to happen.  Illness and travel aren’t good driving buddies.   But then we had a respite.  Saturday tired but perky and I NEEDED to get out of the house.  Three days of forced confinement running chills and upset body systems… I wanted out!  We decided we’d pack clothes in case an overnight we could do, but headed out.   The lad, the bunnies and piggies could care for.  🙂   You see, my hubby thinks to himself “engagement means commitment!”  🙂  (at least that’s my spin today).

Part of the way there my body gave us a good scare (and a half) but we pushed through, made our event, and puddled around a bit after and then headed home.  We decided that being stuck in a hotel room if health turned more negative was not our idea of WhooHoo fun.  Hubby was beat up tired when we got home and I wasn’t much better.  But a good day out we had.  Hubsters said “I had a good time, glad we went, but very glad to be home.”   Let’s see how I play out this second helping on the word prompt Engage.

blurry image of a crowd, text engagement means commitment

Engagement means commitment

Reflection on a Sunday morning
driving to church,
hubby lying in bed,
illness catching up to him.

Realizing that engagement
means commitment.
Hubsters meant it, years
ago, when “I do” was uttered.

Over the years, he’s
shown time and again
what that commitment means.
The love expressed in
permanent form.

He Loves me.
Even when he’s tired,
and his body unwell,
And he sees a pacing wife
with too much energy to spare.

What’s the plan, love?
What shall we do?
As he fakes wellness and
plans to follow through.

In the car, a lovely day,
the weather’s in our favour.
A long drive, tickets in hand,
the Sportsmen Show awaits!

We went, we saw, we chatted much.
Oohed and aahed and had some fun
people watching, people avoiding,
crowds getting too much.

Out, head home after muddling
about at IKEA, a stuffed, very
cute owl attending.
“I can’t think anymore hun,
let’s get going.”

Home, to bed, and in the morning
a hubster poorly enough that church
not an option. And I realized.
This was love! 🙂

A later in the week footnote

As I read over this post it made me think back to a time when I chose to love my hubby more than my friendship with others.  A time when I helped him out with a needful task. Turns out that engagement means commitment from both sides in a relationship.  🙂

Life Journey

March 14, 2025 By Annette1 10 Comments

I think I’m on a journey of reflection lately, not necessarily a bad thing that.  This post isn’t quite what I thought it would be this morning after a brief conversation with fellow sickie!  🙂   On a positive note my son is feeling some better, enough to do a paperwork day at his new job.  But hubby is now sick with me!  GAH, I guess our plans for the weekend are fully cancelled.   BUT my body doesn’t respond well to gastrointestinal illness, and recovery takes longer.  Hopefully my life journey will be a bit of a encouragement to this young lady as she continues on hers.  Learning to cope with some dignity instead of despair and too much frustation.  🙂

This post is part of a five minute Friday word prompt.  Find out more at Miss Kate’s.

Life Journey

laying quietly in bed
gradually feeling a sense of
emergency, thinking, oh shoot,
not going to make it.
as yet again…
sickness hits and a mess ensues.
more laundry,<br />more washing up,
getting rather tired of this.

frustration with one’s body
mounts and then one stops as
in a moment of God-clarity
realization hits that one’s
life journey impacts others.

a young lady dwells with us
who struggles with her body
with unexplained illness striking.
hers so random doctors
can’t figure it.

she questions why,
and I understand the question.
because it’s one I’ve
oft asked, why was I cursed
with a body that dislikes
so much of life,

even though
both of us are relatively healthy,
happy, hardy people.
just with bodies with issues.

and we are minded of others
who have it worse
for much longer than
our brief bouts of
not being okayish with
the bodies we live in.

hopefully in this life journey
my experiences can show some
patience with God’s path for me.
Perhaps also a way to push through
to something more.
