Okay, so this was actually kind of fun to do, and rolled right off my fingers. Caught in the middle plays off the word prompt from Miss Kate. One often hears talk about how birth order affects the way children grow up, and that you can tell where in the pack a person is based on how they act. So it was neat to look up “birth order” websites and see what they have to say and if any of it was applicable to my life. 🙂

Caught in the middle
Caught in the middle
that’s who I am
Fourth in the line
of six kids in all.
Caught in the middle
middle of three
Girls in row
the middle.. that’s me!
Learning early to
Mediate needs
of older against
Younger.
Learning to be
easy-going
reduce the stress
on me!
Independence is
my middle name,
don’t tell me
what to do!
Figuring out
my own path,
it’s not for
you to do.
Middle children
learn and grow
and have things
just their own.
Don’t let your
past define you.
Leave yourself
room to grow!

Scripture References
Remember this…your life is not defined by what order you were born in, in your family. Your future might be influence by how you grew up, but it doesn’t have to define you. See beyond the now.
Psalm 139:13-16
13 For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.[a]
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you,
when I was being made in secret,
intricately woven in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
in your book were written, every one of them,
the days that were formed for me,
when as yet there was none of them.
Jeremiah 29:11
11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

I am also fascinated with birth order. I had a class on it as a continuing education class when I was a first year teacher. It is really neat to hear the thoughts on it! I am an oldest, and I think some of those characteristics play true for me and others who I know who are the oldest child in their families as well. Driven…perfectionistic…rule followers…
Lovely poem you made about the middle! I used the same scripture from Psalm 139 in my post as well…it’s the verse of the day over at biblegateway! <3 to you this weekend!

I don’t hold to it all…but there are definitely insights to be gleaned eh?
“Leave yourself room to grow!” Love it as we are constantly being transformed and growing.
I have to remind myself of this often. I don’t have to be stuck as middle child.
Ah! I’m an eldest of four. Now I understand where my middle siblings are coming from!
It does help when you see some of our skills. 🙂
I’m a middle child and you seem to describe us very well.
oh good! 🙂
birth order is interesting and plays a big role in shaping us, but you are right – “leave yourself room to grow!” My husband and I are both oldests, and I suspect that plays a part in the dynamics of how we get along and understand each other.
At FMF #30 this week.
it does make a difference… some of it is how we think.
As an only child I find this very interesting. As a middle child, you became a peacemaker.

well… I try. 🙂
Well, I never had a dad,
and never had a mother,
so it’s no surprise I had
no sister and no brother.
Left to rise up on my own,
wild in rugged hills,
but you know, to be alone,
that ain’t the worst of ills,
for I found there space to grow,
and took time to be awed
by summer sun and winter snow
and by the face of God.
I know ‘alone’ must have a cost,
but never really felt the loss.
I kinda get this, I do! 🙂
I enjoyed this one, especially your scripture references. God is amazing in how He formed each of us to fill the role He chose.
I know, isn’t it?
