It’s another five minute Friday word prompt! Do join in won’t you? Miss Kate has chosen the word Culture this week.

Day by Day I see it
The people walking by
Day by day I read it
The stories, oh they fly.
Right now it seems that Facebook
Is full of anger see
My thought is right, Yours is wrong
Why can’t you let it be!
Trump is horrid
Trump is good
Trudeau is silly
Trudeau does what he could.
Pro-choice is the only way
Women’s lives to meet.
Pro-life is what is good and right
It’s what makes life so sweet!
Christians are bad
Their mindset is wrong
Care for the orphans
OH they cannot belong!
Their faith a reason
The orphans to care
Sometimes the rejection
Seems too much to bear.
Opinions run rampant
In this culture you see
Divergent opinions
Disagreements must be.
How do we meet
Is there a middle ground
I really don’t think there is
There isn’t one to be found.
So how do we show grace to those
Who fervently can’t see
That God indeed has a better plan
Which he can guarantee.
There’s not an easy way I know
When so easy tempers flare
Digging in “mine’s the way!”
Many do not see the care.
But try we must to show
That there’s another way
To hold our faith, and steadfast be
And face another day.

This is beautiful, Annette.
My ethos are pretty well summed up by Housman:
‘Epitaph on an Army of Mercenaries’
These, in the day when heaven was falling,
The hour when earth’s foundations fled,
Followed their mercenary calling
And took their wages and are dead.
Their shoulders held the sky suspended;
They stood, and earth’s foundations stay;
What God abandoned, these defended,
And saved the sum of things for pay.
Old mercs never die. We just regroup in hell, and go back out, selling our swords for a dollar and our souls for a cause.
I am proud that I was one.
such an interesting poem, I like it! 🙂 thanks andrew
Thanks for this. Things sound crazy. I’m an Australian but I live overseas so I’m watching my own country’s issues through Facebook and new sites etc. It is kind of hard to understand what is going on.
It is a bit crazy, but I’m supposing it’s the same all over the world. People always have opinions.
I love this poem especially the last stand. Holding our faith steadfastly. My daughter and I have talks about song lyrics, friends, and the myriad of ways that culture impacts her fourth grade class. Thank you for sharing. I hope you have a wonderful day!
thank you, I think it’s great you are already talking with your daughter about cultural influences.
Your poem describes the divide so well. I often think of Jesus–surrounded by the Roman culture and living among the divisions between Sadduccee and Pharisee. He is our guide, and he has given us the Holy Spirit as a helper.
thank you Carol. The Holy Spirit does help us for sure.
Beautiful and heartbreaking descriptions of the state of things. Good challenge to us all.
thank you Jenny 🙂
Enjoyed it, as always. A very good summation.
thank you. I’m always delighted if someone enjoys my poetry. 🙂
