Fake is a term, is the title that immediately jumped into my head when I saw the Five Minute Friday word prompt. Then I had to figure a poem to go with it! Something easier said than done, but here we are a bit more than five minutes later. You’ll forgive the thinking time though I figure! 🙂

Fake is a term
Fake is a term
well-known these days.
From pretend news stories,
cat-fishing, spam, and ads
pretending to be breaking news!
How many times have
you got suckered in
by one such as those?
The other day a phone call
was made by one such
as me… well to be true
it was me! 🙂
A well-played email
had me concerned
until they asked me
on my computer to be.
Suspicions arose, I
soon allowed a dial tone,
hoping that no long
distance to be charged.
FAKERS!
Subtly they work, these
Fakers and pretenders,
you find them everywhere,
even with the church.
Pretending to be faithful, when
a true relationship with God
they have not.
It is so sad to say
that even within, what
should be a loving, connected
family, loved by the God
of the universe, that we
can be surrounded by hearers
of the word only, not doers.
So watch, and see,
be aware of the prowling one,
let not down your guard,
and teach your children full well.
To see who is a hearer only,
and whose actions and words show
truly of the church of God
in all their doings.

God’s word
1 Peter 5:8-9
8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world.
Isaiah 29:13-14
13 And the Lord said:
“Because this people draw near with their mouth
and honor me with their lips,
while their hearts are far from me,
and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,
14 therefore, behold, I will again
do wonderful things with this people,
with wonder upon wonder;
and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish,
and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.”

They come around in falsity,
wreathed in psuedo-smiles
to gain an unearned victory
based solely on their wiles,
spinning tales of tragic,
stories of an epic woe
to try and work their magic,
and access to your hard-won dough.
The starving kids in burning lands
will see nary a dime,
for all you give will stick to hands
unabashed of their crime,
and thus each true and noble mission
will be seen with likewise suspicion.
that’s the sad part of it all… the shadow it casts on the good.
So true, Annette. Fake abounds all around us. May we be on our guard and ask God for discernment each and every day.
yes, it’s what we can do right? And teach our youth to do the same.
Yes, we need to be aware of the enemy’s schemes and test every spirit against God’s Word! Visiting from FMF#7
I’ll have to stop by yet Kym, my days been busy! we so much need to be discerning.
Wow, well written and encompasses so much of what is fake today, yet we still have God’s word to discern what is true.
Thank you Rhonda. 🙂 God’s word helps us immensely
Very Good. 🙂
thank you
Looks like our thoughts traveled in the same direction this week.
that’s not a bad thing is it? 🙂
I’m afraid I tend to be suspicious of everything and everyone these days. I don’t like being like that but I think it is a protective measure for all the “fake” in today’s world as you talk about! We just have to remember that God is in control….
yes Cindy, we always have to remember who is in control for sure! He helps us manage the fake around us.
Hmm, it seems that we shouldn’t necessarily be looking for fake in the church. Rather we should know the word of God so well, and study the fruit of the people around us, so that we recognize it when we come across it. If I were to start looking at others, considering whether I thought they were “fakers” in the church, it would harm relationships. Rather, I should allow that to be God’s work.
I guess I’m not suggesting that we have to searching around in church looking for people who are fake, but more that we need to teach our children to be diligent everywhere …. including in the church so they aren’t surprised that even within the body of Christ…. is one who prowls.
