This week the Homeschool Review Crew has issued the challenge. What can we write a post about grandparents and gratitude? You know what evokes gratitude in me? Grandma weekends. You know those weekends where grandma says “I miss my boy and I want to spend time with him?” So you pack off your teenager and say “go have fun with gramma”.

The Blessing of Grandma weekends
The blessing of grandma weekend is two-fold.
Gramma gets to spend uninterrupted time with her favourite grandchild. Okay… her ONLY grandchild. But it’s time just between her and him. They play board games, go for long hikes, and just be together. They both are relaxed and settled by the end of the weekend, it’s lovely to see.
The other side is: It means that I have time with my fellow… just him, no one else, and that’s a hugely wonderful gift. No child interrupting, usually we get out of the house away from the TV and chores. We might do something as mundane as running errands, but we have no time constraints. If we’ve the finances we’ll do lunch out, if not we’ll pack one and find a hidden park bench to enjoy a meal.

How about you? How do grandparents and gratitude fit into your life? Do they support your homeschool decisions? Pray for you? Provide opportunity to promote the importance of family? Do they help you show how people SHOULDN’T act? (Cause face it, not all families are rainbows and blessings). Are you able to have grandma weekends or do blessings show up in different ways? How are grandparents an important part of your life?

I love this! It does provide everyone with such a blessing – time for everyone to come together and strengthen their relationship.
yes, very muchly so. 🙂
My husband goes through seasons where he travels a lot for work. It’s such a blessing to be able to send the kids to their grandparents house so I can join him when he ventures to cool places. It’s so great having the grandparents close by.
oh, how nice! cool places to visit! 🙂
We are blessed that my children get to enjoy grandparent weekends! Hubby and I even got to go on a little 3 day get away for our anniversary while the kids stayed with grandparents this year. Such a blessing.
that’s so nice isn’t it Dawn? To have a built-in support system?
My children do get to spend special time with their grandpa and its so fun for all of them!
isn’t it great that they can do that?
I love this so much!! Unfortunately we don’t have grandparents that live near us but they are supportive of our homeschool journey and I’m very grateful for that.
Yay for parental support eh? Even long-distance it’s a great thing to have!
Grandparents are awesome! My kids used to have sleepovers at grandma’s house, but then we moved out of town. They don’t get to see Grandma as often now, but we do try to Facetime often to maintain their connection.
I am so glad that you can facetime with the grandparents…I guessing they enjoy it too eh?
I can’t wait to be a grandma. I loved my grandmother more than nearly anyone else in this world! She was like a second mother to me. She was there through absolutely everything for me. I miss her every day. I’ll soon be a great-aunt, though – my sister is going to be a new grandmother in December! So being a great auntie is the next best thing, for now. 🙂
But I love how you put it – it’s a day with just you and him. I love those days when you get to bond one on one with a loved one. 🙂 Love this post, Annette!
thank you Richie. one on one time is a most excellent thing you know? I think it would be great to be a grandma…it would be so fun! Spoiling a little one.. what joy!
I love this take on the theme. What a treat to have grandma weekends, no matter the age.
very definitely!
I’m so grateful for my parents and my husband’s parents. They take so much time with our kids and are great role-models for them. They’ll watch them anytime I need them to, and they’ll also watch them for no reason. We all live within five miles of each other, so that’s a big plus!
isn’t it nice when you have built-in support? Makes the whole family connection thing even better.
