For some reason this week’s prompt made me think back to a time when I was hungry but didn’t really want anyone to know. And someone, I don’t know who, left a box outside my door with food hidden within. It was such an unexpected surprise that helped fill my belly. I still wonder who might have guessed my need. Just who did God nudge? I’ll never know this more than 30 years later. 🙂

Hidden within I wonder
what could it be?
Wrapped up in silk,
bedecked with ribbons and lace
Shake it, smell it, weight check too
What could it be?
A brown paper bag
decorated with crayons,
something helpful wrapped within
A family might be surprised.
A trusted source asks the
question “want one”? So the answer
is yes, even though, what
is offered is unknown.
“I got you, it’s good”.
Comes the response from behind,
as hands reach to take
what you can’t quite put down.
What did you bring me?
the excited question raised
as a red reusable bag
is placed on a counter top.
What could it be hidden within?
Some things from this week:
– a gift for a departing team-member
– food for the poor
– freeze dried candy
– the hands of co-workers willing to help
– additional food for a mom-in-law
Simple, easy things
that show care and concern
from little hands, and big hearts.
Creativity and willingness
to make it easier for others.
Makes me wonder,
what else might be hidden within?
What surprises might we look for?

God nudges his people all the time, the question is, do we hear him? Are you ready to prepare a surprise for someone? A helping hand, a lifting up, a person who sees another, and follower of the one who nudges. Who will you be? Will you be the one that carries the burden of another, yet unknown? Perhaps you’ll be the one that grieves a life given, or is the one helps another grieve less? Choose a path, accept the nudge, and live the life God calls you to!
Are you joining in on the five-minute-Friday word prompt from Miss Kate?

I too have been in a time of need. More than once we came home to groceries on the porch or cash in the mailbox. That was more than 10 years ago & I still tear up when I think about it.
some people just make our hearts bigger don’t they? Showing God’s goodness.
I love your post! It’s such a blessing how God takes care of us even when we don’t know who or why, like in your gift of food. May we all be sensitive to the nudges from God and follow His leading to share with others! Blessings to you! I’m your neighbor at #FiveMinuteFriday.
we do need to be sensitive… I want to be like that person who surprised me….
A beautiful reminder, Annette, to listen and obey God’s nudges!
God’s nudges are good things to be mindful of.
That’s a very moving reminder to pay attention when the Holy Spirit gives me a little nudge like that. I love it!
Thanks Kym
What is it that might be concealed
in that box beside the street?
If you kick it, all may be revealed
and you’ll find you get to meet
the Lord Jesus, face to face,
and He’ll ask, with some pity
and more than a touch of grace,
‘Why’d you kick an IED?’
For me, this kinda says it all,
that though I am of soundest mind,
it’s still there, behind the wall,
the war I never left behind,
the war that really never ends
when you’ve gotta bury parts of friends.
I can see that too. Once a warrior, always, and the memories are real.
