Oh, it’s five minute Friday time! I was saddened to hear of a three-week imposed break over Christmas. But ah well, I might just come up with my own thing! After all, it’s my blog and I can do that if I want to can’t I? 🙂 Anyways, we have a word prompt “instant”. Let’s see where this word takes us today. And so we are given “in an instant”. Life can instantly become something other than what we have planned. Are we grateful for the impact it can have on us?
In an Instant
In an instant
my day changed.
From doing dishes
and waiting to pick up my car
to listening
to a friend.
Grief-torn, and
needing to walk.
I’m grateful God
prompted me to call, and
giving me the freedom to
just stop and go.
A walk needful.
In an instant
my day changed.
A boy texts
I’m home from school sick!
I’m grateful for technology
that allows me to work
and yet, take a moment
to check in with a lad,
and that my work allows me
that time to take note
of my lad and his needs.
It allowed me to take home
some lipton soup that he
can eat and stay down.
In an instant
my day changed.
A friend messaged
saying thanks.
Because I write my
devotion verse on facebook.
a determination on my part
to try to focus on one part
of God’s word throughout the day
and a friends’ like encourages
to revisit that verse
in an easy to access manner.
She said they encourage her to
“stop and read carefully,
thoughtfully and slowly”.
And suddenly, what was starting to
feel like a selfish thing to do
became a God thing,
and my heart was lifted.

but the Lord establishes his steps.

Do not boast about tomorrow,
for you do not know what a day may bring.
2 Let another praise you, and not your own mouth;
a stranger, and not your own lips.
What a blessing to read this at the close to my day. Simple things that can change our day, our attitude, our heart, in an instant. May I always focus on the good instances, and bring positive instances to others. Visiting from FMF#6

We live in a culture of instant gratification: a desire or fantasy of overnight fame or success, immediate transformation of any kind , instant types of foods, drive thru restaurants, banks, pharmacies, etc. This insatiable desire to gratify our flesh or obtain instant positive results without much effort, sacrifice, or self discipline rarely develop or mature us into the image of Christ which is the ultimate goal of Christians. The Bible likens spiritual growth or maturity to planting a tree on fertile ground nearby a rich supply of water or body of water which yields its fruit in timely seasons (Psalm 1). Therefore, yielding spiritual fruit and developing Christ like character take time and patience to produce in our lives. We need to sacrifice our selfish desires and prioritize our time with the Lord, daily delighting in His presence and meditating on His Life giving Word. It is here in God’s Holy Presence daily meditating and digesting His Living Word that we are transformed into the image of Jesus, and prospering in every area of our lives (Romans 12: 1-2, Psalm 1
Very true
Life can change in an instant. A lesson that I learned this year. So, I want to make sure that I am fully present. So, I do not miss the simple moments of joy that may be overlooked because I am distracted.
Trying to remember that is important isn’t it? Be ready!
It is so true that a day can change in an instant. May we obey the nudges God gives and obey instantly.
sometimes we don’t do we? It’s better when we listen.

In an instant all is changed
from the easy to the hard
for suddenly there’s a deranged
billy goat in my back yard,
eying Barb’s much-cherished trees
with his hunger at the helm:
desert willow, mulberries,
and of course the treasured elm.
So it’s ’round and ’round we chase
through the sage and ‘cross the ditch
’till he’s caught in an embrace
I learned on a rugby pitch,
and as I put him out the gate,
to smell of goat’s my bitter fate.
Andrew you made me hoot! I know well the smell of Billy Goat so this was very picturesque for me.
