Miss Kate has given us a seasonally appropriate word prompt, Grateful. If you haven’t taken the time to become part of our community, perhaps now is the time. Consider, what do you have to be grateful for? This word inspired the poem “In Gratitude I come”.

In Gratitude I Come
Across the platforms
Social media extols
Thanksgiving time
Let gratefulness unfold.
Pies, and turkeys,
and maybe a ham.
A sweet potato casserole
Might add some glam.
So many things
To be thankful for.
Listing many things,
Might be a bore. ๐
A fine place to live
Work to be had
School it’s a priv
Learning now lad!
Family and friends
All gathered round
Searching extends
Something more to be found?
A friend reminded
Just the other day
Something provided
Even without my say.
So at the end of the day
With gratitude I come.
Thankful to one
Who sent his only son.

Verses to Ponder
John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
I John 4:9
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
2 Corinthians 9:11-15
11 You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. 12 For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God. 13 By their approval of this service, theyf] will glorify God because of your submission that comes from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others, 14 while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. 15 Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!
Your poem says it so well ๐ ‘So many things To be thankful for’ – indeed. Thank you for the verses as well – grateful to God for the gift of His Son.
thank you. ๐
Great poem! We have so much for which to be grateful.
When I read the title, though, my mind went elsewhere…the ‘I’ got a major capitalization, an I thought of Chist being grateful…for us.
I hope He’s OK with my giving Him some words to this efect.
My Father sent Me here to die
in pain, His only Son,
but there is a reason why
in gratitude I come.
I’m grateful for your small strange quirks,
and grateful for your willing smiles;
I’m grateful when you do the work
and go the extra miles
to make a fallen sinful place
just a bit more bright
and pass on my Father’s grace
to lift the endless night.
I’m grateful, yes, for all you do,
and so I come to die for you.
i don’t know that the theology is very correct, but the sentiment ๐ I know that God is well-pleased with us for being faithful and giving him the glory in all we do. ๐
You said it well – “so many things to be grateful for” – yes, even in this year of so many changes. Blessings!
