My lad and I used to do a lot of art and creative building and lately that seems to have fallen to the wayside in the midst of books and online materials and what not. I’ve missed it and when I mentioned that to the lad he said “I’ve missed it too, it’s nice to do things together.” We chatted some more about it and decided that once a month at least, or if we can, every other week, we could take a day to just be creative together.

Today that lad woke up tired (the time change does that to him and his dad) and he asked “Can we have a creative day today mom?” I told him I hadn’t planned anything out yet, that I had hoped that maybe Thursday we could have one, but that we could do it today but I would need his help figuring out what we could do. We have decided this will be our approach every time we do this as it gives us time to talk together and make decisions that will work for both of us.
First up – Art
We looked at and rejected a fair number of things until we saw this video
The lad thought this looked doable, so we thought we’d give it a try. This is our end result. Can you tell who might have done which one?

Creative Food
Since I needed to make bread today I asked him “Want to try to make a braided bread? Would that be creative as well?” He thought that sounded fantastic! I chose a bread recipe that called for two braids so I could do one and he could do one and we could both learn a new skill.
If ANYONE has a good way to roll out bread let us know.. this caused us no end of trouble. There must be a trick to it that I don’t know. The end result turned out pretty cool though.
Our cat Miss Lizzie decided to get in on the action by curling up in my temporarily empty colouring book bag. She was very contented.
