Okay, so I saw the word someday as the word prompt from Miss Kate and immediately a song burst into my head. Of course I recognized that I had the wrong words… but I got to thinking. I wonder if I could make a poem that replaces the right words with the wrong ones and see if people can figure it out? Or if I shouldn’t make readers work that hard? I’m going to play with it a bit though as see what I can come up with. Play with me maybe, ’cause Someday, yes, I’m wrong!

Someday, Yes, I’m wrong
Popping immediately into my consciousness
at the word prompt someday, this song rang out loud and clear
Someday when heaven was filled with his praises,
someday when sin was as black as could be…
Realizing I was wrong in my word choice,
and thought with chagrin, time and time again,
I get all the words so wrong,
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, ….
As often sung at work while avoiding
customers who seem uncertain on directions
I’ll take the high road and you take the low
and I’ll be Scotland afore ye! On the narrow
narrow banks of the homeland.
Somewhere, over the rainbow,
I found love. There I found
first found my true love,
I found a butterfly
yes, indeed, sometimes I completely
mangle songs, but it doesn’t matter
really, if I know I am completely wrong
I just sing much more quietly!!! 🙂
But you know how it is
somedays, a tune hits you,
and yes, I know I’m wrong, but
the tune needs singing.
What’s a gal to do?
(sing much much more quietly,
or ask a coworker, or son, for
a different song to sing). 🙂

Fun to read, and the music was great. smiling
Wonderful! 🙂
This was a fun read, Annette. It is so true, once a song hits and we have the lyrics wrong, the correct words just don’t come to mind. It’s funny to me how the tune sticks all day long though. Keep humming and keep smiling!
Thank you Joanne. 🙂 I love singing so having tunes that are familiar is fantastic for singing.
Some days I’m right, some days I’m wrong,
some days my life gets hazy.
I take a page from Cheech and Chong
when all gets kinda crazy.
Some days my breakfast is a beer,
on other days it’s rum,
some days my head ain’t really clear,
but still I’m having fun
with the dragons that do live
behind the pantry doors
as long as they will share, and give
me quite a few S’mores
to juggle, smell, and then to eat
so that nutrition is complete.
Yeah, tongue completely in cheek, mostly.
indeed.
So funny – I often have songs pop into my head in response to a prompt that are not at all related to what I’ve written, but just have that word. And sometimes I include the song in the post anyway! I love the version of Loch Lomond you shared here – beautiful! Visiting from FMF#12
Thank you Kym. 🙂 I like that version as well.
It’s the intention that counts! Perfection is a myth. Anything done with a cheerful heart is worth doing, even if you’re doing it “wrong”. So sing your heart out, whether you’re off key or mangle the words. Sing anyway.
I do. 🙂
Cute poem.
P.S. Thanks for sharing the link to the One Day song. Haven’t heard that one in a very long time.
you are most welcome. 🙂
