T is for … Toque!

You know what a mom should NEVER do… ask an 11 year old boy to pose with a toque on his head.
THIS IS WHY!!

 Isn’t he a crazy lad?

Anyways, since I was running out of time this week and I knew I needed to get a T word done for the blogging the alphabet I thought that Toque would suffice.

Can you tell from the picture what a toque is?

NO?

Perhaps this picture might help:

Yes, the keeper of warm heads in Canada is called the Toque.   Not a hat, not a cap, not a whatever else you might want to call it.  It’s called a toque. It’s a French Canadian word that most of the rest of Canada has picked up on.  Unfortunately, most of the rest of the world is not as illuminated as us Canadians are… so now you know the best reference eh?

But tell me.. what do you call a toque where you are from?   I’d be interested in knowing.  ๐Ÿ™‚

I would love to have a Toque! In our house we call them "Caps", "Hoots" (from the German song "Mein hut der hat drei ecken"), and "Daddy's Old Guy Hat". Unfortunately we are so profoundly out of touch with modern culture (being that we haven't had television since the kids were very little, we get our news on the Internet, and we don't subscribe to magazines cause we could spend that money on homeschooling supplies instead) that I haven't a clue what people call it these days in our neck of the woods…
Hope you are having a wonderful trip!

I've heard the term beanie before.. but it's been in reference to a skull type cap. Interesting word usage eh?

we've always called them toques, but of course we're from Canada! We had to learn what words to use for things here in Maryland – and here, they are called knit caps or beanies.

New word. That's a good thing, though I am not sure how you actually would pronounce that. Love the pictures!
