Distractions Surround Us

May 1, 2020 By Annette1 8 Comments

I admittedly was talking with my hubby as I was writing this, so I don’t know if I exceeded the five minute mark or not. I suppose my poem fits well eh?  Distractions surround us (and for me tonight one of those distractions was my hubby).  🙂  I welcome you though to join us, write on the word distraction.  You can find the word prompt over at Miss Kate’s.

distractions surround us

Distractions Surround Us

At the end of a busy day,
Not so busy really.
More of a day when distractions
Ran my day.

I wanted to walk this morning
but exhaustion and pain distracted me.
Directing me to a chair
To sit quietly, not moving.

I had plans to deep clean the kitchen,
The fridge is looking bedraggled lately.
Hubby complains nothing can be found,
and pleasing him I want to do.

But reviews call,
because moving seems too much to do.
I revise and think I can plow
through at least 3 or 4.

By days end I discover
Bunnies to sell, kills an hour or two.
Supper to make, a lad to talk to,
a Friend to answer.

And only one review, barely done
by evening come.
Then it’s garbage day.
Will distraction never end?

I talk with my tenant,
She speaks to the same.
Plans made but body disagreeing
Sleep and quietness remain.

But distraction or not,
God is still the same.
Holding us fast,
an anchor he remains.

I note my son
At every meal a pause
Taking the time to remember
His God.

Never distracted, always that thought
Saying his thanks,
Mentioning concerns
Oh… that I might be as focused as he.

I need to be more mindful
and not let
The distractions which surround me
To stop me from remembering what is most important.

God and his plans
They override all of ours
God and his hold on
our lives is secure.

God never gets distracted
Nothing calls him away
Faithful to the end,
No distractions surround him.

Perspective: A Word Study

April 23, 2020 By Annette1 8 Comments

Peering around, what can I see
Reality is there, all around me

Everywhere I look, what I see
I know, could anything else be?

Reference and how it’s framed,
Changes in opinion, mustn’t be blamed.

Seek the truth, not just noticed.
Listen for perspective, even the remotest.

Positions might change, with a bit more fact
A different way of seeing things really isn’t whacked.

Explanations matter, don’t’cha know?
Careful, too fast a change, risk vertigo!

Change your point of view,
You might learn something new!

Take a stand or change your attitude
Watching your perspective can stop a feud.

Interpretation of what you observe,
Wisdom keeps you from being absurd.

Victory is yours indeed,
If you stop and consider what others need.

Eventually, you’ll get it straight,
Changing your perspective is never too late.

Perspective: A Word Study

I can’t tell you for sure how long it took me to put this poem together, I started it but kept falling asleep.  🙂  So it SEEMED like it took forever!

Over the years I’ve learned the shifting your perspective can be a very valuable thing to do.  Having a tenant who has dealt with extreme poverty and what that means in day to day life has been an eye-opener for me.   It’s helping me to reshape some of my expectations and my perspectives.

Anyways, this is a Five Minute Friday post provided by Miss Kate, you are welcome to join us!  Write your own post, share on Facebook, write in the comments, five minutes.  All on the word Perspective.

It’s Just Another Day

April 17, 2020 By Annette1 4 Comments

Promises made
When this is all over
A big party we will have!

Let’s celebrate life,
Even while we remember,
Those we have lost.

Covid has come.
Some losses we have.
People so important, gone.

But a hope is there too
One day this shall end.
Herd immunity achieved.

Losses will still happen
Because the virus will stay.
But no longer threat level.

So breathe it in
That hope.
The hope of another day.

Even if, right now.
all the days look the same
Sorrow feeling the air.

Just around the corner
Maybe a week, maybe a month.
Sheltering in place will end.

And then,
Come on out,
A big party is planned!

Celebrate life,
Share the victory.
We met our goal.

So too, with Easter just passed,
We know what it is to look on in hope.
For a better day is coming.

It’s just another day.

It's Just another day, text over daybreak

In case you missed it, it’s another day.  A Friday I look forward too, a chance to free write with a group of men and women, gathered around a singular word.  Miss Kate has posted it for us.  Come see won’t you?  And perhaps, you’ll be inspired to join us?  Come on, it’s fun! 🙂

Being Patient Won the Day

April 10, 2020 By Annette1 12 Comments

It’s five minute Friday again and Miss Kate has given us our word prompt.  I do hope you will join us.  Write for five minutes, link up, communicate with the person who linked before, be an encouragement.  Today let’s see how being patient won the day.

Being patient won the day

Yay, I thought the moment I woke
I slept all night
No early morning rising,
Even though now the cats demand
Food Food from the human at hand!!!

Gather up laundry, get a load underway
Feed the cats, then head outside
The Rabbitry is next.
WOOHOO eight babies born to a doe I had warned
Fed and watered, yes, a new day is born.

Hubby’s up A grunt’s all I hear.
Didn’t sleep well? I inquire
and then duck out of the way.
The loved one is tired,
No sleep came his way.

So decision made
Patient I must be
Helpful yet mindful to stay out the way
Not mean or uncaring,
Just very short of tongue.

Lack of sleep doesn’t work
For this sweet man of mine
Temper will flare, with loud noises beside
Not good for a wife with
A startle reflex a mile wide.

To be patient is needed
For both sides you don’t’cha know
A man frowning when loud words
Cause a skittering away of his wife
He hates it you see.

Conversation ensues, as tempers ease
And a heart settles again
Touching base as only a man and wife can
Talking and laughing
Being Patient won the day.

Being Patient Won the Day

The struggle is real

Tonight was a struggle about what to write.  It wasn’t an easy day here today, tiredness and being locked in a house for two weeks has worn just a bit.  I saw the word Patient but was fed up with the whole Covid-19 thing though I could have filled pages.  🙂  Instead I took a round about route showing the effects of Covid when people don’t sleep and can’t get out.

Makes me fear for people who are in truly a NOT GOOD relationship.  Hubby and I are good, but hard days sometimes happen, as they do in any relationship.  But some relationships are truly harmful with no understanding.  I fear for those adults in such hard places.  Where anger or impatience leads to deliberate hurt. How do we care for people in such situations when we are ordered to stay home and mind to our own?

I don’t have the answers. Do you?

Hope Offered

April 2, 2020 By Annette1 12 Comments

Truth be told this week has been …. a challenge.  No other real way to tell it.  Hubby and son have been sick, and I spent two days with a horribly itchy eye.  It was rather besetting.  But let me not tell you of troubles, but instead of hope offered, of God seen in the midst.

Hope Offered

Hope Offered

For I know the plans

Long before Covid was even a blip on the horizon
God knew.
He knew about how a virus could jump species
How a novel virus could cause the world to stop.
He knew. None of this surprises him.

I have for you

Life we thought could more or less continue
Hubby working, son schooling,
Mom selling bunnies and minding the house fullwell.
Yet God knew the plans he had.
He wasn’t surprised…but.. we were. 🙂

Declares the Lord

Yes, it is HE who makes the decisions
The declarer of schedules,
Thoughts and Ideals.
He knows how to rework them,
He says for our own good.
Can you believe it?

Plans to prosper you and not to harm you

Who would have thought the blessings
Illness could bring
Friends bringing groceries,
Time spent without pressure.
Time to clean, and tidy and winnow the mess.

Plans to give you hope and a future

What a blessing it is to spend time
With one’s life partner.
To have late night conversations.
Smiles…and hugs from afar.
Keep the virus from mom or we’re all sunk!

So says the Lord

Let me surprise this day
A gift you see is coming your way
A gift that reminds you of hope yet unseen.
A present so timely, you’d think it was foreseen.
Hold on….

Remember those plans?

Hope offered (a poem)

Bible Verse on Hope

Jeremiah 29:11  For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

The gift itself is not for your knowing, it was indeed a gift from the Lord, timed in a way that only he knew best.  My heart continues to sing.

Come visit us a FMF, Miss Kate offered up the word prompt Hope this week.

Adjustments Made

March 28, 2020 By Annette1 8 Comments

It’s a time of transition, the world is adjusting to a new norm.  I can’t say I think it will last.  People will get tired of not being around others, and tired of not being able to find what they need.  And they will head out and get what they need and say heck to the consequences. People are not meant to be in isolation from each other, even the strongly introverted have people they want and need to connect with.

I’ve watched the news reels and seen those who deny Covid-19 is dangerous, or even a virus that can be spread, that it is all a hoax.  I’ve seen those infected with Covid go out of their way to infect others.  Deliberate action to harm others. I’ve watched the Spring Break revellers and wondered at their foolishness.

I’ve noted the fear and the anger.  A mom telling a little girl to move away from the sidewalk to the other side of a car, giving even more than the six foot minimum.  The security guard needed at the local grocery store to maintain order. Signs on floors reminding people to keep their distance.  People can adjust if they give themselves time, and we need to encourage them in their adjustment.

Adjustments Made

Adjustments Made – a poem

Alert! Alert!
Stay at home!
The alert came through the phone.
Startling me it seemed
out of a year of growth.

People fail to understand
The need to exercise care
Home from vacation
Yet going to the store.
Children oft in tow.

I have mixed emotions about this need.
To fill the fridge and cupboards bare
taking along the whole family.
It’s so easy to focus on just the self
To forget our larger community.

But the alert sounds
This is not just about you!
Protect families, see to the weak
How will you help
Preserve the economy?

Fear rises, avoidance a norm
And with it a counter point.
Remember kindness, to think of others
To keep yourself and others safe
Sidewalk signs appear

And so we see
Adjustments made
People slowly learning
To be a community.
Think beyond themselves.

The five minute friday word for the week is Adjust.  I hope you’ll take the time to join in with us.  It’s a fun writing activity.

Less Becomes More

March 13, 2020 By Annette1 4 Comments

I have had this tune running through my head more of yesterday and all morning.  It’s getting a bit annoying but I decided to put it to work.  When I heard the Five minute Friday word for today this song Less becomes More popped into my mind.

Less Becomes More text, table with two vases on it.

Sometimes along life’s journey
I have to wonder when less is more
Wonder when less is more
Like never before.

I get this feeling living inside
Causing me to mind
Causing me to mind
that less is more.

You see I have this passion for bunnies,
For families and health
For families and learning
And living for God.

So when one distracts from another
is when less becomes more
When less becomes more
so life is balanced.

And How do you manage?
To keep that balance in life
To keep that balance in life
So that God’s in all.

Read more of the bible
Listen to sound teaching
Listen to sound teaching
and talk to God.

That’s how less becomes more
by focusing on God
By focusing on God
The giver of more.

Continued Ruminations

As I’ve been reading through the book of Deuteronomy, every time the Israelites follow God less, more disaster happens.  It creates within my heart a desire to know God more.  To find ways to make God more relavant to my life.  Too see the distractions less, and God more, even when disasters strike or worry arises.    How about you?
