Will the Faithful Stand?

January 25, 2019 By Annette1 12 Comments

Miss Kate puts together a writing challenge for a group of people called the Five Minute Friday community.  We have a facebook group too!    This week the word is Convenient, and I invite you to come join us.

Will the Faithful Stand
Photo by Kendal James on Unsplash

Pondering the word convenient thoughts run through my mind.
At how this world LOVES the convenient.

Fast food galore.
Drive throughs.
Easy chairs in the theatre.
Ready made meals.
Microwaves and Insta-Pots.

Convenience surrounds us
Sometimes I wonder if all this convenience
is truly advantageous to us?

Is it acceptable or beneficial
for us to have everything so easily at hand?

This week I have seen on facebook
the easy attack on prime ministers, presidents
and smiling teenage boys.

In a day of easy convenience
It’s become agreeable and acceptable
to jump on the bandwagon
To not do the leg work.

Having a life of convenience
Has the unfortunate result of
also making us lazy.

Not wanting to take the time to make
homemade mac and cheese
Or a lasnagna made from scratch
or spend the time laughing with a loved one
when making a quick stir fry.

When did convenience get in the way
Of us truly living and thinking
through our lives.

Has it all come down to the quick fix?
Quick emotions
Fast meals
The helpful short-cuts
So distracted we can’t even take the time
To talk and think
To really acknowledge what is most important?

These beneficial and time-saving
Ways filter down into
How we live out our faith

With five minute devotionals
Quick read prayer books
Where’s the deep thought into
a Bible passage?

The willingness to do the
hardwork to show God’s Glory to the
world at large?

Can we handle the backlash?
Do we understand the need for a long view approach?
Can we in this immediate gratification society
understand the need for patience and fortitude?

I don’t know in this convenience driven
Fast food culture.
Will the faithful stand?

Better

January 11, 2019 By Annette1 2 Comments

Time heals all wounds
they say
Give it time they say
It'll get better.

But still it sits
The memory comes back
Time and again.
Shame, loathing fills a heart.

As I read through the book of John
I see Peter
Denying his Lord
Three times, and the cock crowed.

I see myself in Peter
You know
Denying the Lord
Questioning what I know

Caught up in the moment
Forgetting myself
Worried about things
Not trusting the truth.

I need to remember
Failures don't define
Peter went on to become
A stalwart in the faith.

Yet I don't see myself
Getting better
I just see myself
Continuing to struggle.

To deal with the shame
of my continued
Constant
Failure.

How to Get past it?
I do not know.
I just live
Each day Striving.

I know God's Grace is real
I know abundant life
Waits just around the corner
I know this.

And sometimes
Sometimes I catch a glimpse
And I stand on wonderment
At what will be better.

And again I believe.

This is a poem based on the Five minute Friday word provided by Miss Kate.   Today’s word is better.  Won’t you come join us?   Write for five minutes, share with others, be encouraged as you encourage others.

With Completeness

December 21, 2018 By Annette1 6 Comments

This is the last five minute Friday post until the new year.  Miss Kate has given us the word Prompt With.

with completeness, text on black background with white flower
Photo by Jimmy Chang on Unsplash
  • Side by Side
  • Hand to Hand
  • Together.
  • Recently seen
  • A woman
  • Created out of
  • Man.

  • Man’s incompleteness
  • Makes a woman Complete.
  • Interesting thought
  • Pondering happens.
  • Could incompleteness in one
  • Be the means of making
  • Another Complete?
  • Or How about the opposite?
  • Could completeness in one being
  • Make another being complete?
  • Ooh…another compelling notion.
  • And then as I pause in my
  • Consideration
  • I remember
  • Man is no incomplete
  • Our failings so obvious
  • Even in our strivings we fail.
  • We lack completeness.
  • Yet
  • Stop and Think
  • Jesus is complete.
  • Perfect man, divine God
  • His perfection led him to a terrible end.
  • Why?
  • So his completeness, his perfection
  • By our belief
  • Will make us complete.
  • See in first Adam
  • His incompleteness made
  • Complete woman.
  • And now
  • Second Adam
  • His completeness combined with our belief
  • Makes our incompleteness
  • Complete, Whole, Perfect
  • Isn’t it amazing?

Balance in the Rabbitry

December 7, 2018 By Annette1 4 Comments

Could it be
Is is true?
Finally
After a year of trying
Could there be????

OH, there is!
Excitement rises!
I see two brokens!
Chocolate they are!!!

I gasp
I feel emotions arise
I have baby chocolates again!
Yes, my heart cries.

Thank my Lord
I’ve done a breeding right!
Oh now, what should I do?

Shall I do as I always?
Leave the babes with mom tonight?
Or…

Shall I fuss a bother and
Worry over them so…

My joy fights with worry
What should I do?
Then clear-headedness arrives
Let the babies find their way.
Let health prove out.

BUT be mindful

Balance it out.
In one week shelve these babes
Guard against night feedings
With babies popping out.

But until then…
Watch them grow
Be delighted and
Hold those smiles close
To Your Heart.

Balance in the Rabbitry

Now it’s your turn, come join us won’t you?  Every Friday Kate gives us a new word.   This week it is Balance.

Value (a poem)

November 23, 2018 By Annette1 Leave a Comment

I tried to have fun with this poem.  It often surprises me where a single word will take me.  What does value mean to you?

—————

One dollar, two dollar, three dollar more
Better hurry up
Gotta run to the store!

Bread, bananas, muffins and cake
Gotta buy it fast
Gonna head for the lake!

Count it out,
Add it up
Make it last
Don’t use it up fast.

One dollar, two dollar, three dollar more
Figuring out the value
When I’m out at the store.

Do I need bananas?
I might not need the cake.
I definitely need the bread
I’ve a student for goodness sake!

Oregano check
What? I don’t need Basil!
Popcorn, Milk,
Corn on the table.

Eggs! Eggs!
I mustn’t forget them too!
Cake, muffins, cookies to make
Try boiled, or scrambled fried do?

Here lad it’s your turn
Give it a whirl
Manage our budget
Let the money unfurl.

The value of money
is not easily learned.
It’s better to learn young
Than as an adult be burned.

Value (a poem)

Rinse, Repeat

November 2, 2018 By Annette1 Leave a Comment

Another day
Another load
Pinks today
Fold yesterday’s blacks

Mom, have you seen?
I need my black pants!
They are folded here lad
Take them up with you next?

Mother my shirt?
The white one, I dance?
Capoiera dance fight
I practice?

Hun! That dress shirt, I need
Has it been done yet this week?
Tomorrow my love,
The lights will come next.

Load after Load
Sometimes drudgery it seems
Until I hear the need
that it fills

Clothes have a job.
I’m learning you see
You can’t do the job
If the clothes you don’t have.

Some lessons come slow
My heart no longer frowns
Thanks and the need
Heart smiles they give.

God reminds
In a still quiet voice
A help-meet I am
I can make it my choice. 🙂

Rinse, repeat. a poem about laundry

—————

Share life with an international student

October 5, 2018 By Annette1 Leave a Comment

share life with international student

International student
Comes with wide eyes!
Some fear, some excitement
What is in store for him here?

A new Land, a new people
What kind of food?
A new room? A bed?
Or maybe on the floor?

A new flag?
Maple leaves!
Red and white
not yellow, green and blue.

A new school?
My teacher, says I come play baseball?
I hear people speak good Portuguese!!!!
but I learn English!

Youth group
HEY! Your ride is here?
Oh I go with him?
I have fun!

I’m going to a wizardry weekend?
You want to come?
We volunteer and then go have fun
YES.

This weekend it is
Thanksgiving to share
A new holiday to see
Turkey and taters!

Family, come meet
My new son for five months
Conversation and laughter
Welcoming grins.

Games to play
Uno a hit!!!
Play every night?
Uh.. let’s try another for a bit. 🙂

Homeschooling what is?
The question is asked
So off to a teen night
Fun to be had!

I heartily recommend
an International student to have
Share ideas, share laughter
New experiences to be had.

Come join us won’t you?   Kate is hosting a five minute freewrite this week (Friday).  The word this week is Share.   Visit others, think on a word, blog or not.  Just share your thoughts.  🙂
