It took a bit of thinking while I was at work today to come up with a title for this five minute Friday word prompt. The Pattern of Insanity, with pattern being the word prompt. I suppose most of this poem will be in response to what feels to me the insanity of this current time we live in. I’m feeling a bit tired of the over sensitivities of people and how often they just want things stopped as opposed to working harder to solve the issue.

The Pattern of Insanity
Sometimes talking to people
is a bit of a challenge
the over-sensitivity means
that everyone gets so offended
over the smallest of things
and so sometimes it seems that
the world is going just a touch bit insane.
How can it be that
just because you can’t do something
that it means you need to be
disappointed that you can’t
participate in a voluntary challenge?
And you are so unhappy about
your perceived lack of inclusivity that
you call for it to be not allowed.
This without doing the work to
see if there is a way that you could
make the challenge work for you!
So in essence, giving up before giving yourself
a chance.
And then of course, there are those
that will defend their actions,
likening it to active discrimination
against another body of people.
And so I wonder,
where does the insanity end?
The pattern of insanity is seen
Yet, I have to admit,
as I gave this word Pattern
another thought, particularly since
I combined it with the word insanity.
It’s a bit of a pattern of insanity
I sometimes see in myself.
Sometimes I shoot myself in the foot
before I give myself a chance to
take a step forward.
I find someway to discourage
myself from even trying.
So I guess the insanity I see in
others, I can see in myself too.
The solution is recognizing it right?
And sometimes I can do that for
myself and other times it
takes a loved one, or occasionally
a disgruntled stranger to offer a
boot in the pants to get me out of my rut.
So how do we help this insanity stop
in the lives of the “but you can’t do this
because I can’t take part!” people?
The people who are just making it hard
for others to want to do anything that
would be a fun challenge
for a whole host of other people.
How do we support that challenge givers,
and challenge the “whiners/nay-sayers”
to work harder to find a good solution?
Or perhaps to ask better questions, such as,
how can I be supported in this challenge?
Can anyone help me problem solve instead of the
cry to shut it all down?
How we help people recognize that they
are shutting themselves down
before they even try?
I don’t really know,
but somehow we need to
keep trying yes?

God Speaks
Matthew 7:1-5
“Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye.
Luke 6:36-37
37 “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; 38 give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
Ephesians 4:11-16
11 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.

I agree; we must keep trying! I, too, am tired of how carefully I must tread in order to not offend.
Is it fair to say that I am offended by everyone being offended? 😏
oh, I get you Barb. I sometimes think I’m too old to deal with these offended ones…. And yet, I know people at my work who are much younger than I am who feel the same way. Just tired of all the offended ones out there….. Patience, definitely patience…..
Oops forgot – FMF #9
Annette, as I read your poem and thoughts, I came to wonder if what is lacking is perseverance. Have we lost our spirit of perseverance? Do we give up rather than continue our efforts to achieve or do something despite the challenges? You certainly have given some food for thought 🙂
Joanne, I think there might be something to that. It’s too easy I think for people to give up nowadays, or perhaps to stop thinking things through.
Beautifully said!
You are so kind Rhonda
Good food for thought, Annette.
(Your FMF neighbor this week at #23)
Thank you Sandra
there are a lot of patterns of behaviour that I struggle to comprehend – in others and in myself. I think the reason is because the unhealed areas of our hearts behave illogically and don’t act as we would like them to.
There is so much bleakness within us isn’t there. Changes so much that we don’t even comprehend.
