My five minutes are written, you’ll see them below. Room from some preamble I think.
This week the word we have been given is World. A friend popped out a few additional words to stimulate my thinking, which helped.
This week my world was filled with arguing with people over the word genocide. I thought the word was being used incorrectly and said so. This apparently means I’m uncaring and cold. I’m not, really. Though I do think word use is important.
Today my world also included saying goodbye to my international student. Our two worlds collided over the past five months. I think we both learned a thing or two. But I often had to tell him THINK, think it through my boy. He was, and I think always will be, a feelings led boy, but hopefully he remembers to THINK, think it through my boy! 🙂

The World Continues
All through the ages
The world continues.
Battles fought
Armies dismantled.
Pain and suffering.
Some battles were fought
Without a battle cry
No official announcement
And yet, land was lost
A people shuttled off.
Today they would say
Amends we must make!
The past so horrid
And today, it continues.
I have to ask.. does it?
This makes me seem
Cold and uncaring
Yet that is not the intent.
The intent is to question
And say the right words.
To convey that an apology
Is an apology.
It is not the fixing of wrong.
It’s an acknowledgement.
We can’t go back.
Learn an historical language?
Become a people overcome?
Is that the intent?
We cannot.
If we go back to our roots.
Who do we displace in turn?
This feelings based culture
It’s a hard one to navigate
It’s a world apart
From the one I was raised.
My lad helps me see a different perspective.
BUT… is it right?
That struggle HE will have to make.
It’s wrong that
A culture was lied to.
It’s wrong that
Women of that culture disappear.
But you know what.
Women of all cultures disappear.
It’s a sad and horrible thing.
Is it genocide OR
Are the perpetrators just better at hiding?
Or does the legal system need adjusting?
I don’t know.
But I know that it matters
The words that we use.
As we try to navigate a world
That doesn’t really want to listen.
Because… Feelings trump all.
And they shouldn’t.
My world says talk
And my world says reason it out.
My world says USE YOUR BRAIN
Think, Think it calls
But my world…
I wonder…
Is it disappearing into a cloud?
Yet the world Continues

Five minute Friday is a weekly link-up led by Miss Kate. Write for five minutes immersed in a single word prompt. Then Link up and share encouraging words with those who have gone on before.

This is terrific, and I am SO glad to see that I am not the only person who would say, “…an historical…”!
🙂 Thank you Andrew.
Well-said, friend. Feelings should not trump anything! And going backwards is not the answer, except it is wise to learn from the past and move forward. Keep speaking, keep writing. The world needs your voice.
In Christ, Julie from FMF.
thank you Julie. sometimes it gets a bit old dealing with the emotional stuff … I suppose it’s a good way to shut down conversation and think you won.
This is just excellent. So heartfelt and so very true.
thank you. This was … not the easiest to write and think through.
