Andrew’s been having fun choosing words that normally we wouldn’t have as options. Today Turkey is the Word and I used it to poke a bit of fun, and to so some thinking. As a Canadian we had our “turkey day” a few weeks back. Holidays can sometimes be a good time to pause and reflect on how we are living our lives, don’t you find?

Turkey is the Word
Turkey is the Word
and the food of the day
if you’re American and
rather stuck in your ways.
You could have had ham,
sushi, or roast beef,
but it had to be turkey
what’s the matter chief?
Did you rolls, or green
bean casserole, mashed potatoes,
and pickles? The plate of olives,
and maybe some tomatoes?
What’s part of your
American thanksgiving feast?
I bet you made enough to
feed several beasts!
As you prepared, brave
food explorer or not!
Did you offer thanks
for all that you have got?
My mom reminded me,
just the other day,
it’s harder to be thankful
when all of life feels gay.
It’s the harder times of
life that encourage thankful hearts,
remembering all that God has done
gives us faithfulness smarts!
Let the hard things of life
encourage our faith eh?
Turkey is the word for this
reminder needed today!

i have to admit, I don’t quite understand the point of these emojis. 🙂 But I’m thankful for the response.
They are just turkeys. I was being silly.
ah, okay, silliness is allowed. 🙂
Thanksgiving in India, …our churches do a Harvest thanksgiving.
Once we visited a village church and there were thanks offerings from local farmers, you saw wheat and barley strands, onion braids, garlic locks, oh it made for tears too. Such gratitude to the Lord of the Harvest.
At home we celebrate, with also shares of miracles. The only Turkey story I had, was posted, thanks to Andrew😅
Yours is such a heart warming Post. Never eaten Turkey, but got the aroma of His Grace. 🍃🌷🍃
that would have been rather neat… to see those thank offerings. Thank you for your kind words. 🙂
Turkey, if cooked right is delicious
The Indian celebration sounds like a wonderful event.
Fun poem.
thank you Sandra
A fun poem, but also a reminder to be thankful to God for all we have and are. Even in the hard times, we can thank Him for His love and care. Blessings to you!
same to you Gayl, thanks for stopping in. 🙂
Love how you worked in “eh” into your fun poem!
You are so right, though. When everything is going well, people forget to be thankful.
What a blessing we, for the most part, can choose our holiday meals!
yes indeed.
This is great Annette. Blessings.

thank you
What a fun and lighthearted take on the Canadian vs. American Thanksgiving experience! As a fellow Canadian I appreciate the gentle nudge — we’ve already wrapped up our turkey day and moved on, which gives us this wonderful perspective of watching the frenzy from the sidelines. Your poem captures that playful curiosity perfectly: why does it *have* to be turkey? There’s something freeing about stepping back from tradition and asking whether the meal (or the day) really reflects gratitude, or whether it’s just comfortable habit. The “what’s the matter chief?” line gave me a good chuckle. Hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Thank you
