For it is God who is at work in you,
both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
Philippians 2:13
What is the foundation of your life?
This is the question facing us this week in “A Mom Just Like You“. What is the foundation of your life and how does your homeschooling fit into that?
If you are a person of faith, is that your foundational reason to homeschool or do you have another main reason for schooling your children at home?
Have you solidified in your head what your reasons are to educate your children as you do? If your faith is part of that, does it show in how and what you teach?
How do you keep your foundation at the forefront?
If faith is the foundation… do you have regular devotions? Do you turn to the Lord in prayer in times of stress? Do you share about your faith with your children? Do they know the “WHY” of your choice to school them at home?
If you need reminders to seek out God, some suggestions to help:
- put up bible verses around the house
- play faith based music
- listen to faith-based pod casts or radio
- read articles, blog posts or books that help you grow in your faith.
When Fear Hits
If you are solid in what your foundation for schooling is, when fear or uncertainty hit, remember what that foundation is. Are you meeting your basic goal? Are you working toward it one day at a time? Are you remembering to put first things first?
If you are schooling your children because faith in God matters… remember that. Make it a pivotal part of your day every day. Stop and call your children in for prayer if bickering is overwhelming the household. Call your children into prayer if tiredness overwhelms and you just need God’s grace to fill your moment. Remind yourself that God’s glory is seen through your daily actions. Help your children to see it too. Lean on God, read his word, flood your lives with his love and action. Remembering God helps to lessen the fear.
It’s no different from when the Israelites were called to walk forth in faith and God told them “Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.“
