Written by Julia Cory on the behest of Archer Gibson. Gibson was the organist at the church that Cory’s family attended in New York. Gibson wanted new words to a popular tune (we gather together). It took her about two weeks to come up with the original first three stanzas, she added the fourth for Christmas.
She was an active member of her church all her life, working actively in her community as well.

Nice words to this rewrite. Not a favorite tune of mine but good words go a long way in making something stick in my head. And I do like these words.
