On Our Way Rejoicing

May 27, 2018 By Annette1 Leave a Comment

Written by John S Monsell. Son of Thomas Bewley Monsell, archdeacon of Londonderry, Ireland, Monsell attended Trinity College in Dublin, and was ordained in 1834.  In 1853, he was assigned to a post in England, serving as Vicar of Egham, Surrey, until 1870, and Rector at St. Nicholas’, Guildford, until 1875.  He was killed as the result of an infected wound from a fall from the roof of the church while it was being rebuilt. He had helped in the rebuilding of three churches he was part of. He created 11 volumes of poetry encompassing almost 300 hymns.

On Our Way Rejoicing, a hymn to learn

Lyrics

On our way rejoicing, as we homeward move,
Hearken to our praises, O Thou God of love!
Is there grief or sadness? Thou our joy shalt be;
Is our sky beclouded? There is light with Thee.

Refrain
On our way rejoicing, as we homeward move,
Hearken to our praises, O Thou God of love!

If with honest hearted love for God and man,
Day by day Thou find us doing all we can,
Thou who givest the seed time, will give large increase,
Crown the head with blessings, fill the heart with peace.

Refrain

On our way rejoicing gladly let us go;
Conquered hath our Leader, vanquished is our foe;
Christ without, our safety, Christ within, our joy;
Who, if we be faithful, can our hope destroy?

Refrain

Unto God the Father joyful songs we sing;
Unto God the Savior thankful hearts we bring;
Unto God the Spirit bow we and adore;
On our way rejoicing now and evermore.

I look at the words to this hymn and as I read them over I find myself asking… am I rejoicing?  Am I finding ways to praise God as we go through a time of transition and the stress that goes with it?   Am I remembering that God is my joy?   That he won’t let my hope be destroyed, and that he continues to love and mind me full well.

We Are God’s People

May 20, 2018 By Annette1 Leave a Comment

This hymn is another from a service where hubby was guest preaching at. It was the first time I’d heard this song and I found it to be easily singable. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

we are god's people

Lyrics

We are God’s people, the chosen of the Lord,
Born of His Spirit, established by His Word;
Our cornerstone is Christ alone,
And strong in Him we stand:
O let us live transparently
And walk heart to heart and hand in hand.

We are God’s loved ones, the Bride of Christ our Lord,
For we have known it, the love of God outpoured;
Now let us learn how to return
The gift of love once given:
O let us share each joy and care,
And live with a zeal that pleases Heaven.

We are the Body of which the Lord is Head,
Called to obey Him, now risen from the dead;
He wills us be a family,
Diverse yet truly one:
O let us give our gifts to God,
And so shall his work on earth be done.

We are a temple, the Spirit’s dwelling place,
Formed in great weakness, a cup to hold God’s grace;
We die alone, for on its own
Each ember loses fire:
Yet joined in one the flame burns on
To give warmth and light, and to inspire.

Written by Bryan Jeffery Leech. He lived 1931-2015, Born in Yorkshire, he served in the Navy. He eventually became ordained as a pastor serving in various pastorates in the United States.

Saviour, Again to Thy Dear Name We Raise

May 13, 2018 By Annette1 2 Comments

Don’t you love a good hymn that speaks to the praise and worship we have for our risen Lord?  Praising him for his actions on our behalf, and that also speaks to our dependence upon him?   Saviour, Again to Thy Dear Name We Raise is one such song.

Saviour Again to thy dear name we raise

Lyrics

Savior, again to Thy dear name we raise
With one accord our parting hymn of praise;
We stand to bless Thee ere our worship cease;
Then, lowly kneeling, wait Thy word of peace.

Grant us Thy peace upon our homeward way;
With Thee began, with Thee shall end the day.
Guard thou the lips from sin, the hearts from shame,
That in this house have called upon Thy name.

Grant us Thy peace, through this approaching night;
Turn Thou for us its darkness into light;
From harm and danger keep Thy children free,
For dark and light are both alike to Thee.

Grant us Thy peace—the peace Thou didst bestow
On Thine apostles in Thine hour of woe;
The peace Thou broughtest, when at eventide
They saw Thy piercèd hands, Thy wounded side.

Grant us Thy peace throughout our earthly life;
Peace to Thy church from error and from strife;
Peace to our land, the fruit of truth and love;
Peace in each heart, Thy Spirit from above.

Thy peace in life, the balm of every pain;
Thy peace in death, the hope to rise again;
Then, when Thy voice shall bid our conflict cease,
Call us, O Lord, to Thine eternal peace.

Written by John Ellerton, Saviour, Again to Thy Dear Name We Raise, was written for the Festival of the Malpas, Middlewich and Nantwich Choral Association in Cheshire, England. Mr. Ellerton wrote about 50 of his own hymns and translated a few others. Born in London, England he eventually took the Holy Orders and became Curate of Eastbourne, and then Vicar of Crewe Green 1860, Rector of Hinstock 1872, of Barnes 1876, and of White Roding 1886. He lived from 1826-1893. He wrote prose as well as poetry and is best known for his work as a poet and hymnwriter. The Hymnary site has more information on Mr. Ellerton and his work.

Worthy of Worship

May 6, 2018 By Annette1 Leave a Comment

worthy of worship

Hubby was guest preaching today and this song Worthy of Worship is one chosen to go along with his sermon from 1 John 1:5-10.   I thought it a rather pretty song filled with words describing who God is.   I don’t know a whole lot about the author or anything.  I just happened to like the lyrics and thought I’d share them with you.

Lyrics

Worthy of worship, worthy of praise,
worthy of honour and glory;
worthy of all the glad songs we can sing,
worthy of all the off’rings we bring.

Refrain:
You are worthy, Father, Creator.
You are worthy, Saviour, Sustainer
You are worthy, worthy and wonderful;
worthy of worship and praise.

2
Worthy of rev’rence, worthy of awe,
worthy of love and devotion;
worthy of bowing and bending of knees,
worthy of all this and added to these . . .

Refrain:

3
Almighty Father, Master and Lord,
King of all kings and Redeemer,
Wonderful Counselor, Comforter, Friend,
Saviour and source of our life without end;

Refrain:

It’s written by Chason Disheroon.  You can learn more about this fellow who hails from Georgia, USA from this site.

Below he sings the song that he wrote.

Tabs Open in My Browser

November 27, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

So, you know how it’s so easy to have all kinds of tabs open in your browser?  Well, I’ve got a few to share with you today.

Mirasee.   I’ve been reading from this blog off and on, trying to learn new things.   it’s good to look beyond your comfort zone with your life and blog sometimes.  This one pushes me to think a bit more.

A google search on the isthmus of panama.   I know you may be thinking what???   My lad and i were reading a book and the lad didn’t know what this was.   In case you didn’t know:

Robotics Workshop.  I was looking at this kit for the lad for Christmas but he wants something else very specific.    He also did a robotics class through HOPE so this isn’t quite what he needs right now.

Create and Sell Digital Products.  Walks a person through the different formats.

Learning about the tailorbird and how they build a nest.  We were fascinated!

50 books your child should read before 12 years old.  Not sure I agree these are all must reads, but  many of them are good reads. 🙂

Learning what a Pilum is. One of our history books mentioned this weapon, which caused us to look through our weapons books after doing a bit of on-line research.

One day I was wondering how to make my own non-toxic cleaner.  I honestly can’t remember why because I use a damp cloth and rag and consider it good if I don’t see dust.   AND I do have a high tolerance for dust unless my mother is coming for a visit. 🙂  Anyways, if you are curious, I found something here that looked simple enough to be doable.

You know how we have the bermuda triangle?   Did you also know there is a DRAGON Triangle?   I know…shocking!  (at least I was shocked).  We learned about it in the wonderful series “The Unwanteds”.   We still need to finish that series yet… Image from here.

Troutwife’s Pizza quiche which I would like to try sometime.

Story Spiel by my friend Lori.  I need to figure this method out a bit and see if I can implement it with the lad.

A girl in my homeschool group CONSTANTLY listens to music, it’s part of her special needs to block out extraneous noise.   She highly recommended I listen to Kim Collingsworth, and she was write…GOOD music.  Here’s a piece you might like.

My hubby actually sent me on this quest.  How to build a stone oven. I think it would be rather neat to put one together, though it would take some learning on how to do.   But imagine…fresh baked bread you made outside?  Be rather neat I think.

Free Civic Air Patrol Curriculum.  Looked intriguing at the time, haven’t really looked into it a whole lot yet.

We’ve had two miscarriages in this family, so occasionally I read articles like this one.  Some of thoughtful and others well…better left unsaid.  This one I thought was well written.   10 ways to honor your baby after miscarriage or infant loss.

Anyways, this list is getting a touch long, so I’ll write more in another post!  🙂

Hymn Study: We Praise Thee O God Our Redeemer

September 24, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

 Lyrics:

We praise Thee, O God, our Redeemer, creator,
In grateful devotion our tribute we bring;
We lay it before Thee, we kneel and adore Thee,
We bless Thy holy name, glad praises we sing.

We worship Thee, God of our fathers, we bless Thee;
Through life’s storm and tempest our guide have Thou been;
When perils overtake us, escape Thou will make us,
And with Thy help, O Lord, our battles we win.

With voices united our praises we offer,
To Thee, great Jehovah, glad anthems we raise.
Thy strong arm will guide us, our God is beside us,
To Thee, our great Redeemer, forever be praise.
 Thy love Thou didst show us, Thine only Son sending,
Who came as a babe and whose bed was a stall,
His blest life He gave us and then died to save us;
We praise Thee, O Lord, for Thy gift to us all.

 Written by Julia Cory on the behest of Archer Gibson.  Gibson was the organist at the church that Cory’s family attended in New York.  Gibson wanted new words to a popular tune (we gather together).  It took her about two weeks to come up with the original first three stanzas, she added the fourth for Christmas.

She was an active member of her church all her life, working actively in her community as well.

Hymn Study: Come to the Saviour

September 3, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

Last Sunday we sang this song at church. It’s been running through my head ALL WEEK LONG so I thought I should share that joy with you. (and yes, it actually HAS BEEN a joy).

So today.. enjoy Come to the Saviour.

Lyrics
Come to the Savior, make no delay;
Here in His Word He has shown us the way;
Here in our midst He’s standing today,
Tenderly saying, “Come!”

Refrain
Joyful, joyful will the meeting be,
When from sin our hearts are pure and free;
And we shall gather, Savior, with Thee,
In our eternal home.

“Suffer the children!” oh, hear His voice!
Let ev’ry heart leap forth and rejoice;
And let us freely make Him our choice;
Do not delay, but come.

Refrain

Think once again, He’s with us today;
Heed now His blest command, and obey;
Hear now His accents tenderly say,
“Will you, My children, come?”

Refrain

Written by George F. Root, a American man with a love of music.  By age 13 he could play several different instruments, he played organ as an adult, and taught in the New York Institute for the blind.  He wrote both sacred and secular music, both tunes and words.  By the time of his death he had published more than 500 pieces of music.   He sometimes used the German name Wurzel (Also meaning root) in his music.

Come to the Saviour is a simple invitational hymn.  I read this story over at CyberHymnal

“In 1879 I was assisting in revival meetings in Danville,
California,” writes the pastor of a Presbyterian Church at
Oakland. “The meetings were well attended and good interest was
exhibited, but for a long time there were no conversions. In the
neighborhood there was a man who, with his wife and children,
attended the church regularly, and he was one of its liberal
supporters. They were most excellent people, but could not be
induced to profess Christ, and did not call themselves Christians.
One day, while the men were holding services in the church the women
were having a prayer-meeting in the manse near by. In the course of
the meeting they sang ‘Come to the Saviour, make no delay.’ The
singing over, they were about to engage in prayer, when the lady
above referred to asked them to sing the last verse of this hymn…The
lady was greatly affected and when the singing ceased she said with
deep emotion: ‘Yes, I will not stay away any longer.’ The women were
all deeply moved, and prayed and praised God with warm hearts. When
the word reached the men they were greatly encouraged at the good
news. A revival followed, …. This hymn seemed to have been the means of
reaching the wife’s heart, and of opening the way for the blessing
which followed.”

I love listening to men singing hymns.  Enjoy this version from Guam.  🙂
