Ken Wells along with Hillary Wells put together Swamped, a book laden with survival challenges.
Ken Wells, the uncle of Hillary Wells, grew up as one of six boys in the Louisiana swamps were Dad was an alligator-hunter. Author of five novels about the Cajun Bayous, and a longtime writer of the The Wall Street Journal.  His niece Hillary is a writer, comedian and a producer (working in Louisiana’s burgeoning film industry). She grew up in the bayous of South Louisiana and enjoys cooking gumbo.Â

Water, plants, and animals all threaten the survival of these two plane crash survivors. But… can they find their way out? In a swamp land so vast.. is survival possible?  With humour and well created characters, Ken and Hillary walk us through the survival of Jack and Olivia. In the midst of their struggle, romance blossoms.Â
Over the course of 29 chapters we see Jack and Olivia grow in their understanding of each other. They learned each others strengths and determinations. Their mutual survival ended up not all being on Jack as the tour guide, but using Olivia’s abilities as well.Â
I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this read even though the sheer number of issues they had to deal with…. seemed a bit unbelievable at times. Â
I laughed, I cried out “OH NO!”, and felt relief when they survived the latest mishap. The authors met their goal of entertaining me well. Fantastic to learn a bit about the Great Atchafalaya swamp as well. Learning about real life places is always a good thing no? Â
So if you are at all interested in young adult romance, and learning abit about survival, cultural differences, and the Cajun lifestyle… check out Swamped. You will not regret it.Â
Not something I would typically pick up but you make it sound like one I might enjoy. I may just go add this to my “to be read” list.
