Disappoint

October 23, 2020 By Annette1 16 Comments

I have to wonder
As I ponder
Which is more important to me.

To disappoint the me inside
Or to cause disappointment to those outside.

It’s easier to forgive I think
Causing sadness to those I link.

Then cause a wound deep within,
For all I see then is my own sin.

So often that way so I find
It’s myself it’s hardest to mind.

Forgiving others easy be,
Even if they disappoint me.

So easy then to extend grace,
Why for me the about-face?

Shouldst though not myself extend,
the same willing helping hand?

I’ve yet to determine why I’m so,
All I see is that God knows.

Perfect thought he calls me be,
I know he me through Jesus see.

Thusly even though bad I am,
God indeed the great I AM.

Says to me, Child Mine,
of the great one divine.

Disappoint in self I stand
Still I would hold God’s hand.

disappoint

Five minute Friday is here again!   I’ve napped most the night away but managed to wake up in time to FMF this week.  Disappoint is the word given us by the illustrious Miss Kate.

Hold Fast

October 16, 2020 By Annette1 12 Comments

It’s five minute Friday again, aren’t you delighted?   I saw the word prompt from Miss Kate this morning, it’s HOLD.  So have been pondering it for the past two hours.  I’ve been considering such ideas as hold fast, will your anchor hold, staying steadfast etc.  We’ll have to see where my thoughts take me yet.

Hold defined

  • Noun: grasp, carry, or support with one’s arms or hands.
  • Noun: keep or detain (someone)
  • Verb: an act or manner of grasping something; a grip.
  • Verb: power or control.
hold fast

Hold Fast

We have an anchor that keeps the soul
steadfast and sure while the billows roll;
fastened to the Rock which cannot move,
grounded firm and deep in the Saviour’s love!

That grounding holds us.
The love of God that is.
Just as our parents love keeps
Us secure when we are tots.

How does this transition as we mature?
How does one hold on to
an anchor when persuasions
around us lay?

Wisdom speaks to us
Reminding us to hold on
to the truths we learned as tots.
Clinging securely to love.

To hold fast means
we take action. It’s not a
blind autonamic function.
Purposeful, determined, reasoned.

Choices made
Will we hold fast to the
one who holds fast to us?
Steady, sure, determined, without fail?

Wisdom demands
Putting knowledge to sure use.
Intelligence mixed with emotion.
The provides an anchor surely needed.

Faith is action taken
a trust given to
a sure foundation.
God, our hold fast.

Time Well Spent

October 9, 2020 By Annette1 12 Comments

Well, here it is, Friday night and I haven’t gotten my Five minute Friday post done yet.  You’d almost think I’d been busy today.  I have been, but that last two hours I’ve just been chillin’.  I’ve been watching the Hank Williams movie and thoroughly enjoying the music.   The Five minute Friday word prompt this week, as provided by Miss Kate is Help.   Ruminating on this world, we got the poem Time Well spent.

Time Well Spent

Time Well Spent

Busy Day, a time to rest
Many night I feel so blest.

Once in a while, though
I have to admit, it’s not so.

All I see is worry and strife
The stress could cut like a knife.

On those days, what to do?
Watch TV to chase those blues?

Or rather do the table clear
Play a game with one held dear?

Sometimes I need some help,
So to my son I do yelp.

Lend a hand if you please,
could you provide some ease?

Before I know it, decisions made.
Watch TV or see a game laid.

Help you see is close at hand,
Even if it isn’t planned.

How one handles hard enough days,
Shows what rules each ones ways.

Give into stress, or choose to fight,
means I show what is right.

Help a lad make a better choice,
Fill ones heart with a different voice.

What is a heart, always comes out,
Will it be a whisper or a shout?

Whisper love with quiet voice,
Leave the harshness, just rejoice?

Time together is well spent,
Leaves no need to have to vent!

Breathe

October 2, 2020 By Annette1 20 Comments

Hey hey hey!  It’s that time of day!  Five Minute Friday, with a word from Miss Kate.  This week we are to focus in on the word Breathe.  This isn’t the first time we’ve done this word, back three years ago I did Breathe in … out.

This week I’ve been getting things in order after having been camping for a week.  Three days of doing laundry, and taking time to put stuff away again, as well as getting caught up with things not done while I was away.  After a busy week like that, taking a moment to breathe the busyness away would be good eh?

breathe

Breathe

It took longer than
I thought it would.
Walking to the office and
Then deciding to take what
Should be a half hour walk.

A beautiful day
I took a wrong turn
and….
instead of doing the smart thing
and retracing my steps.

I decided to explore.
Follow an unmarked trail.
Walk up a steep sloop.
I’m sure there’s a lake
Over the rise.

Stop, breathe.
Tall trees surround.
Catch your breathe,
Consider retracing steps but
Up ahead…do you see water?

Two small ponds
Side by side
A treacherous pathway
Is in betide
Breathe, another uphill climb.

Climb, pace it
Step by Step
A tower seen!
Human habitation
YES! My guess correct!

See a blue marker
Realize a trail.
Now to find
where I am
without fail.

A scene of beauty
Rolls out before my eyes.
Blue lake against light sky
God’s creation steals
My breath away.

Careful now
Steep path ahead
don’t fall down
and knock your head.

God at work
places tree
Just where one
needs to be!

By and By
Way grows more clear
I know I’ll get back
A way home from here
Blue markers blaze.

Two hours later
Trailer ahead
My fellows waiting
Wondering where’d I’d been
Snack wrappers lay.

While I was gone.
My boys awake are.
Wondering where Mom is
She’s gone rather far.
Explanation given.

“Mom, don’t follow
strange Trails!
My darling son rails.
Just turn around, and
retrace steps!

Do this without fail!
Laughing he added
We’re glad you’re home safe!
Breathing in laughter and
a bit of concern.

I’m glad that I was
Back, a lad’s concern
made clear.
Two hours it took.
T’was a glorious tour.

God’s creation explored.
A path made clear.
Time to think.
Time to breathe.
It was vacation week.

Everything Pumpkin

September 28, 2020 By Annette1 6 Comments

Pumpkin spice fills the air everywhere I go it seems.  Sometimes it makes sense, like pumpkin spice muffins… mmm.  But sometimes oh my, pumpkin spice flavouring just seems… odd.  🙂 It’s gotten me to think about everything pumpkin, as it is that time of year.  All the different uses of pumpkin, it’s a rather versatile plant and fruit, won’t it be fun to discover them?

everything pumpkin, pumpkins on white steps

Pumpkins as food!

Pumpkin soup, pumpkin pie,
pumpkin muffins oh me oh my!
So many tasty dishes
That delight the eye!

Imagine now if you would
How to smell up your neighbourhood.
With gifts off food,
Pumpkin, cinnamon, spices more.
Bring a grin to
those shut indoors.

Share a gift
To chase the gloom
of business shut down
to know less COVID doom.

Pumpkins as Medicine

Save them all everyone
Make the world safe for little buns!
Create your lanterns
but save the seeds.
They’ll help your bunnies if you please!

Acting as preventative.
Internal parasites
Keep away.
Not a cure, but make it so
worms won’t make a bunny their home.

Also useful pumpkin puree,
Helps young guinea pigs
along the way.
If momma dies,
Pellets and pumpkin.
Make young babies see another day.

Pumpkins are Fun

Carving, creating,
Making some fun.
Jack-o-lanterns
for everyone!

Connect with friends
Pick just the one.
Yellow, white, or
Orange as the sun.

Your taste in carving
Vary be
Vomiting jack-o-lantern
Maybe see?

Possibly inspiration find
you might create
a pumpkin blind.

Or maybe even a rabbit or two,
will grace the
pumpkins that you do?

So what do you think?  Will you join in on the pumpkin linky?  Where does the Everything Pumpkin prompt take you?

How is Church for You?

September 18, 2020 By Annette1 6 Comments

The Five Minute Friday word prompt is church, you can find the linky over at Miss Kate’s.  When I heard the word the words of this song popped into my heard immediately.

Oh come to the church in wildwood
Oh come to the church in the vale…
no thought is so dear to my childhood,
as that little brown church in the vale!

As I sit back and the end of a busy day, I’m a bit perplexed as to where this song will take me in the next five minutes or so.   Shall we go for a ride?

How is church for you? Text with white church

How is Church For You?

Sunday Service, 1030 arrive.
Greeting, noise, alive.

Singing loudly, band it plays
Praise, and hymns, voices raise.

Four or six, music tunes
Praising God, the leader croons.

45 minutes pastor extols
The wonders of God, yes we are told.

Singing again, the service it ends.
Into the world, congregation sends.

Covid hits, everything changes.
Staying at home, the government ranges.

No service oh, for many a week.
How to reach people who seek?

Everyone shut in, people away.
How long can things continue this way?

Gradually easing, the rules give way.
Showing improvement, will covid make sway?

30% capacity, we currently stand
Some church attendance, it’s well in hand.

2 songs, no singing allowed.
Announcements too then heads bowed.

Prayer and a message, in minutes, remain.
Can a church service, help us stay sane?

50 minutes total, sign up to attend
Come, let your heart mend.

This season is hard, can the church lend a hand?
To ease the suffering the locked-in barely stand?

How to combat when together forbidden?
Can we show our God who mustn’t be hidden?

How is church for you?

Choosing the Could

September 11, 2020 By Annette1 8 Comments

Choosing the could popped into my rather tired brain last night and I kept falling asleep as I tried to write on it.  With a busy day today, I’m still battling exhaustion this evening!  But here we have it finally!  A poem to go with Miss Kate‘s FMF word prompt.

Choosing the Could

Choosing the Could

Choosing the could
I stopped to see
What adversity
Might bring to me.

Increased understanding
For others in plight
I started to realize
It was all my fight.

God opened my eyes
To see others pain
Reflected in eyes
Who were also maimed.

Choosing the could
I almost failed to see
How what happened to others
Could happen to me.

Making a choice
Will it be you or me?
Patience is sought
And is often the key.

It’s funny in a way
When you realize a truth
That possibilities exist
Thought forsooth.

Living my life
Choices to make
I have to check that
I the Lord not forsake.

Choosing the could
I chose to press on
Finish the task,
I’ll fight til it’s dawn.

Empathy gained
Hope Restored
Choosing the could
I’ll never be bored.

Galatians 5:13  You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh ; rather, serve one another humbly in love.

Joshua 24:15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”

Proverbs 16:19  In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.
