Word Prompt

A Dependable Trinity.

September 30, 2017 By Annette1 6 Comments

I was talking with my son the other day, he mentioned what he was learning in his devotions (about the Trinity of God) and I talked with him about what I was learning… God always having our back, minding and protecting us.    We talked about how that connected, as when I saw this word prompt late last night I’ve been pondering the connections between the two.

God, Three in One
A Triune God.
Every day the same.
A solidified unity,
a constant support built in.
God the Father
Creator, sustainer,
Lover of my soul.
Father of the Beloved.
The one who calls me to his own.
God the Son.
Jesus Christ the Lord.
The Word, The Light,
Died for my sins,
Coverer of all wrongs.
Beloved of the Father
Leader by Example.
God the Holy Spirit,
Comforter, Guide, Convictor,
One who dwells within
One who minds my heart and mind
Helping me remember whose I am.
Remembering the Triune God
Reminds me of the strength behind
the promises
That vengeance is his.
Mine is but to mind and obey.
To follow the nudges, and guidance,
and words left written for me to read.
The Triune God… Dependable.
Always.

This is a five minute Friday post. the word prompt is brought to us by Miss Kate over at Five Minute Friday.  What is Five Minute Friday?
Well it’s a party of a group of like minded folks who gather on Friday
to do a five minute free write around a singular word.  AND THEN (and
this is the most important part) we take the time to offer up
encouragement to each other on this writing journey.  It’s fun, though
it’s not always easy, but it is always good.   Come join us won’t you?
You are always welcome.

Oh This Music, Just Floods My Soul

September 26, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

I don’t know about you but oh.. music can just flood my soul.

Old hymns filled with doctrine, teaching me about God as it lifts my soul toward heavens in praise and worship of the one I serve.    I suppose that’s one of the reasons why I post a hymn almost every week.  A song will catch my heart and then I need to share with others. 🙂  Finding out the history, learning of faithful men and women who have gone on before, writing down words to lift and cheer, to inspire our praise and worship of the living Lord.   This is our Christian history.

Newer songs.  Ah you got to admit, some of them are sappy, some of them are solid.. oh .. so solid.  Different words that convey thoughts of old, but stated differently that strike a cord of awe and understanding.   Songs that make me want to dance and move and show the Lord my desire to give him praise and honour.

Now granted, I love more than hymns and praise & worship music, I also love me some jazz, and blues, and big band music, country and western and gasp… hubby’s fav.. rock!   But this music makes me tap my toes, and sing out loud.  BUT it never floods my soul like music meant to lift me up to God in worship of him.

What music floods your soul?

This is one of my favourite hymns.   Tell me yours eh?

Because I am reminded, I accept

September 22, 2017 By Annette1 14 Comments

I accept
I take on
I willingly do this thing.

You know..
That thing you would have me do

It’s hard though
sometimes to do this thing

To be the woman that
I am called to be.

And yet,
When I see that you Lord
YOU manage all the details.
You mind my back.
You take care of enemies.
You are my source.

Then that reminder
Helps me all the more
to

Accept
Take on
Tackle
Bear
Shoulder
Whatever thing you ask of me.

I may do so imperfectly.
I may sometimes rail against it.
But when I reminded.
I sorrow in my heart
and again
I lift it up.
This thing you ask me to do.
This willingness to move.
This willingness to parent.
This willingness to write.
This willingness to …..

You know…
You know full well…
What you did….
And why I
Accept.

Support

September 15, 2017 By Annette1 13 Comments

Tonight the family and I went out to the Western Fair, the boys out to go on the rides and me to kibbitz about seeing the exhibits and taking pics of the farm animals and what not.

While I was looking at the cows, a lady was there with a special needs young woman, asking her what colour the cow was.   I remember making the snap judgement “I wish people wouldn’t treat special needs folks like they are preschoolers”.   Having that sudden flash of irritation.

I used to work with special needs folks and it didn’t take me long to realize that with patience special needs folks are capable of so much more than we often give them credit for.  So there I was, ready with the quick mental judgement.   Until I caught something… the look in her eye as she talked with, what I think was her friend (not a client).   That look of pleasure as her friend said “black” and then said no “brown, the cow is brown!”

The next thing I saw… a flash of smile.

I felt disappointed in myself for making snap judgements that I so dislike other people making.   I should know better than that.

Two individuals.. one could have been a support worker with a client, or they could have been friends.   Support was given and received.  In a way that pleased and supported each other (cause that grin was support as well, you know?)

I Thessalonains:  Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing

I want to see that support more often so freely and generously given, what about you?

Grandparents, a poem

September 10, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

Grandparents

Old and wizened
Washcloth shakes
How dare I make a noise
in this quiet place?

Adults are chattering
Children be gone
Grandparents are sitting
Staring in alarm.

Old and wizened
Moving about
What are you doing?
The questions abound.

Hotdogs are roasting
Cameras are out.
Opa and Oma
New memories they make

The differences is stark
Grandparents of mine.
One likes obedience,
One memories are found.

The Poetry of Work

September 8, 2017 By Annette1 11 Comments

I am feeling doggone tired tonight.
As I sat here I thought.. where does that expression come from?

You know what I learned?  It is a “polite” way to say Darn it or …. well you know.  🙂  It does fit though.. I am VERY tired tonight.  🙂   Let’s just pretend I never researched where the expression comes from….

Anyways, What does that even have to do with the word prompt this week, which in case you didn’t know already is the word WORK.

Well…

Work!

Time to move.
Stuff to pack.
Oh no!!!
Oh no!!!!

We’re dealing with two pack rats!
Will I move it?
No I say.
Get this stuff out of my way!

Cold cellar there
And it’s a fright.
What’s the smell
I don’t feel so well.

Kick out the boys
Sweep and mop
Spider webs sucked up
Keep going hup hup.

Garage cleaned.
Garbage is full.
Hooray Hooray
The floor sees the light of day!

Look around
More I see.
Scrap metal I find
New Money, I don’t mind.

Load it up
Cart it away.
Garbage bins full
Oh so hard to pull

Another day done
Tired I am
My feet so sore
Tell me not, there is more?

Hidden Blessings

September 1, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

A phenomena occurs regularly in our household.

My hubby’s phone will ring and the lad and I will immediately burst out in chorus causing hubby to shake his head at us.

What do we chorus?

Ring ring pick up your phone.
Ring ring pick up your phone.

This is his ring tone and it makes the lad and I laugh and sing every single time.  (of course I can’t find the version he uses and if looking for it be careful…there are some not so good versions of it out there)

It’s a blessing indeed that hubby dear rarely gets phone calls.  A hidden blessing if you will.

It means .. it never gets old (so the lad and I get to share a fun moment).
AND
No long term annoyed hubby… in fact.. he always grins after the fact.

This silly family of his. 🙂

But it makes me think eh?

All the hidden blessings we have in life, things we don’t think of.  Like if anything changed with the phone.. it would no longer be funny, or would become an annoyance to my sweetheart.

I learned a hidden blessing this past week.  I breed rabbits.  I’ve been hurt by animal rights people in the past and they are normally associated with rescues, and I’ve learned to avoid some rescues.  BUT I had a wee bunny with a missing foot and I wasn’t sure what I should do with her so I took a chance and contacted a rescue from out of town, and the person was EVER so helpful.  Where’s the hidden blessing?  My stubborn Dutch heritage and my mom’s influence of looking for the good.   You can’t let one person sully your thoughts about someone completely different. Blessings I don’t regularly see or look for those things in my heritage…but this…this is helpful eh?

All the ways the Lord God has provided and protected me and mine eh?  Good stuff those hidden blessings.  🙂
