Word Prompt

A Pondering on the Word Remain

October 15, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

I do a hymn study on Sundays, I have to admit, the word remain is proving to be elusive   You don’t find many, if any, hymns with the word remain in them.   I did find a scripture song that had the word remains in it, but it’s so new the copying the lyrics here could be problematic.  So nix that idea eh?

I got to thinking, why do I post about hymns?  It’s like, what’s the point?  There are times I wonder about not posting them, but then I think about the stories of faith that I would miss, the stories of people who have gone on before, jotting down their thoughts about the Lord, and how we can praise, honour, and adore him.  How we learn more about God in the words that we sing.

I want the history to remain with us.  To not be forgotten.
It’s important to learn from those who have gone on before, you know?

Doing a hymn study, is the keeping on on the faith.
It’s a way to persevere our history.
A way to build lasting bridges.
Some hymns have endured the test of time.
Other hymns being not, not abiding.

Admittedly, there is a side benefit to me doing a hymn study weekly,
It’s gives me a song of praise that runs through my head most of the week.
Calling me back to God when I feel pushed about my life.
It’s a way God gives me to survive the hustle of life.

So what do you say?
Shall I persist with the sharing of the hymns of faith?
To continue my delving into history?
The musical history of the church?

I think I shall.
It’s a joy bringer to my soul.
And that’s worth something don’t you think?

Try it, Just try it

October 14, 2017 By Annette1 4 Comments

You know one of the things I really love?   When my lad grabs hold of an idea, even a half formed idea, and simply runs with it.   It’s just fascinating to sit back and watch him.  His willingness to try new ideas has just exploded over the past year and I so often sit back amazed at where it’s taking him.

Some ideas he’s been running with lately.

Robotics.  He’s taking a class on robotics through the co-op and the marker robot he wasn’t real keen on and didn’t work the way he wanted, so he thought he’d rework it.

He also managed to move some of his ants into a formicarium that he built. He’s ever so pleased that they seem to be moving in well.  They still visit the testtube, but .. they are starting to make a home in the ant home.. eating honey and everything!

And did you know this?
He’s making pets of bugs!   He’s got this stink bug and a leaf footed bug that he’s caring for.  The Stink bug eats tomatoes out of his hand, the other hasn’t quite developed that trust factor yet.   Pictured below is The stink bug’s accommodations.

For his atoms study, he did a thing with an egg and toothpaste and vinegar.  He was widely impressed with the results and played around with the rubbery result.  I have to admit, it did feel rather neat!  Half hard, half rubbery.  He checked it daily until one day it split as he picked it up!

“MOM!  It took off the marker!  Why would it take off my happy and sad faces?  Do you think the vinegar did that or the toothpaste?”  (bet you have an idea where that line of questions went eh?)    🙂

The sheer amount of videos this lad watches, and then shares all this learning with us. It is amazing!  He knows so much!   We were talking about that a bit this morning, and he talked about how one video can lead to another, which leads to subscriptions to new channels, and lately he’s been fascinated by genetic engineering…and BOY oh BOY the chatter and learning…. He actually did that for his innovators study today…researching genetic engineers.

Built a tower of books too!   This was the second build and didn’t get as high as his first, the challenge was this: build a tower using 24 inches of masking tape and one sheet of paper.  I was surprised at how many books he was able to stack!  Rather neat if I must say so myself.

Anyways, you’ll be amazed at what happens if you only try eh?

Invite: Something should change

October 13, 2017 By Annette1 7 Comments

I’ll be making some changes to the blog, so I invite you to stay tuned… Change is good you know?  Keeps a body on their toes. 🙂  In the meantime, let me tell you about a meal I had tonight and thoughts I had regarding it.

You know what we did today?

We made us a Korean meal to sum up a week of learning about Korea.  (particularly South Korea)

The result?

A great chicken recipe that I enjoyed so much that I said “OH, I like this chicken so much I want to invite someone over just so I can make it again!”.  Honey Butter Chicken..YOU HAVE GOT TO TRY IT!!!   Seriously.. SO YUMMY!

When I stop to think about it, that’s just the oddest statement.
Really, we are  quiet living family and don’t have people over all that much, tending to prefer going out and meeting people than having them come in.

Therefore to have a meal that I enjoyed SO MUCH that I wanted to invite people over for it… well.. seriously.. it’s food.  It’s good, and it was REALLY good.  But still…it’s just food.

I sit here and think… so God is better than food, God is better than a whole lot of things. God is awesome and amazing, and protecting and loving, and so mindful of me, why don’t I get excited about having people over to talk about him?  To discuss the things of God that thrill me…like my taste buds were thrilled with the chicken?

Something amiss I think.

Hmm….   something should change eh?

This is a five minute Friday post. the word prompt is brought to us by Miss Kate over at Five Minute Friday.  What is Five Minute Friday?
Well it’s a party of a group of like minded folks who gather on Friday
to do a five minute free write around a singular word.  AND THEN (and
this is the most important part) we take the time to offer up
encouragement to each other on this writing journey.  It’s fun, though
it’s not always easy, but it is always good.   Come join us won’t you?
You are always welcome.

Always Remember

October 11, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

So this past weekend I was at the Breathe Conference. One of the workshops that I attended was one were they critiqued poems brought by the attendees.   I can’t say they all resonated with me, but one of them did. And quietly sitting me burst out with “That was interesting”.  I wish I could have kept a copy, but alas, it was a read poem with no copies available.

 Always Remember

I wish could remember
the words of yesterday.
Words that sunk into
my heart.
Making me ponder,
feel and reminisce.
That made me burst out with
“that was interesting!”
As I sit here and ponder the longing within,
For a carefully written poem.
I ponder why I don’t long to remember
the words of God
Etched upon my heart more clearly.
Why does one make me long for more?
Why do I forget the longing that brought
the heart-etching?

I am moved to remember
the more important thing.
God’s Word.
Clearly written.
For me.
I don’t need to long for words unattainable.
They are sitting right there.
Waiting.
Let me
Always Remember.

Listen, Listen My Child

October 10, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

Hush, quiet, be still
Hush, quiet, be aware.
Hush, quiet, be one who listens.

Come, O children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord.  Psalm 34:11

Listen, Listen My Child

In the quiet of the morning, I hear his voice,
Calling to me,
Reminding me.
That first off and foremost, I am his child.

Listen, listen my Child

In the busy-ness of life I hear his voice
Whispering my name
Teaching me who he is
As I spend time in his word, hearing
Listen, listen my child

In the moment of fear, I hear his voice
Adamantly calling to me
Saying PEACE be still
Remember I AM who I am
Listen, listen my child

In the aloftness of my heart, I hear his voice
Pleading with me,
Reminding me that without him,
I am but a weak, insignificant vessel.
Listen, Listen my child

In the silence of the night, I hear his voice
Tender words, recalling to mind
The blessings of the day
Showing me his continued care.
Listen, Listen my child

Plan, A Thanksgiving Meal

October 9, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

I sit here tonight with a cold, I’ve come back from a busy weekend and a long drive and am feeling rather beat.   It’s thanksgiving weekend too.  It would be lovely to have a meal together don’t you think?   What does one plan when one is away and there’s a meal to put together?  One leaves it to one’s hubby!!!!!

Thanksgiving Meal
A plan to make
A meal expected
Wife’s away.
I know I know
I’ll call my mom
She’ll help me plan.
And so a plan was put in place
Turkey Dinner
Monday, my place.
Saturday
A reminder made
Turkey out to thaw.
Forgettfulness
No turkey out
Tell the wife as to church I out.
The wife she mutters
A bad cold she has
No sleep , Long drive
Turkey thawing
Relief is felt
Monday meal, Food will abound
Tell the wife
Do nothing dear
Rest and sniffle, be at ease.
Monday meal is planned
Mom will come
Ah… I can almost smell it
The plan, it’s done.
