Christmas Cookies

December 26, 2017 By Annette1 10 Comments

Mom came in,
All gingery smells.
Wafting from the bin

She carried in her arms.
Gingersnaps.
A boy wipes his hands Flour patterns to show

The cookies are made His eyes all aglow.
Sugar Cookies
Mmmm.. the spices they rise

And added they are
a double amount
for a favourite friend

An old Dutch recipe
from mom to girl
Papernauten.

Something old, something new
What will a man make?
How about a new marshmallow bake?

Nutella use up,
chocolate goodness share
Fudge marshmallow squares.

Fireplace, a poem

December 22, 2017 By Annette1 4 Comments

The crew word prompt for the day is fireplace.
I have to admit it, I saw the word and thought, what am I supposed to do with that word?

I don’t know but lets see where it takes us eh?

Fireplace

Warmth
Crackling embers
A murmuring of voices.

Popcorn
Hot Chocolate
Ginger Snap Cookies.

Stockings?
Plate for Santa,
a Carrot for a Reindeer?

Flames shoot
Cool, quiet night.
Snowstorm bursting outside.

Poker ready
Moving Logs over
Making space for flickering flame.

Bricks
Mortar cracking
The Flue is opened wider.

Warmth
Crackling embers
A murmuring of voices.

Fireplace.

Some Kind Of Different

December 15, 2017 By Annette1 4 Comments

Some kind of different
The name of book
Popped into my head
Like drawn to a nook.

This year is almost ended,
Memories I find.
Come to the forefront
As this poem comes to mind.

I search for the words
To convey what I feel
Traditions I ponder
What makes Christmas Real?

Advent candles at home?
Readings to make?
Cookies and treats
Visit home shall I take?

What about trees,
Villages and lights?
Christmas is filled
with so many delights!

But really let’s think
What makes Christmas true?
It’s all of God’s action
What HE meant to do.

This morning we read
About the “Great Fall”
It didn’t surprise him
Not one bit at all.

All in God’s plan
His glory to show
To all of his people
Who Struggle below.

God’s mercy shines forth
In the work of his Son
By one great act of mercy
Satan’s plan was undone.

To make Christmas real
Beyond Santa’s and gifts
Consider this fact
Belief in God NOT MYTHS!

So join me today
As some kind of different we find
To make Christmas matter
To whom we are twined.

Kate, the proprietor of the Five Minute Friday community, invites us weekly to come join her for a Five Minute Word Prompt. We gather the world over to share our thoughts over one word. Encouraging each other along the way.   Won’t you come join us?

Lights

December 13, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

The Homeschool Review Crew has started a new season.  With that comes the word prompts for instagram.  Todays word is lights.

Guess what we did yesterday?

We put up the Christmas tree, so….now we have coloured lights shining off a tree in our living room.  🙂

One of these days I will do up a post show casing some of our favourite ornaments eh! 🙂

But for now:

Christmas Tree
Christmas Tree
Oh you bring back memories.

As I consider
What gift to give
As tree wrapping time

I thought about
A move we'll make
Out of our home.

I thought of
The dastardly squirrels
and how they annoy us so.

I thought of slingshots
and traps
Of a boy running while

GO AWAY squirrel
Those shouts still echo
And bring back smiles of memory

Our town is known for a
Certain white beast
A nemesis of mine!
White squirrel abundant
Garden it eats!
Babies galore but

Smiles it brings
Smiles of memories
of a boy's caring heart

So this year
when an ornament
Considered...

Every year
A New one he receives
This year A white squirrel he sees!

If Only the Lonely….

December 8, 2017 By Annette1 11 Comments

Today, oh, if I could explain the joy in my heart with connections made today.  It’s a very good thing.  🙂

If only the Lonely

Tonight I had a treat
Two friends connected
Two .. can you believe it?

The life of a pastors wife
Ain’t always easy
Who to trust is hard to figure.

Real life friend
Known since college days
Love her dearly

On-line Friend
Learning more weekly
Love her dearly

These people
THESE PEOPLE
Keep me sane.

Knowing that trust,
Feeling the love,
God placed.

I firmly believe it
God, knowing my aloneness,
Gave me two friends online,

Friends that care,
Friends that connect,
Friends that pray.

If only the lonely,
.....
Had friends like these.

This is a five minute Friday post. the word prompt is brought to us by Miss Kate over at Five Minute Friday.  What is Five Minute Friday?
Well it’s a party of a group of like minded folks who gather on Friday
to do a five minute free write around a singular word.  AND THEN (and
this is the most important part) we take the time to offer up
encouragement to each other on this writing journey.  It’s fun, though
it’s not always easy, but it is always good.   Come join us won’t you?
You are always welcome.

Truth, a Poem

May 19, 2017 By Annette1 20 Comments

Truth
Truth rolls off my back
like water off a duck.
Finding places to sit in,
Places to lead others to query
Chasing away the dirt and grime
Making one be like new.
Truth
Easily discernable from a lie
Most of the time
But sometimes truth is hidden in a lie
A lie that needs light shone upon it
and suddenly.. there it is … revealed
Truth
It demonstates a man honest
It shows a child’s integrity
It displays a woman reliable
Truth
It’s part of the Godhead
Seen ultimately in his son Jesus
God declared he knew how to make us right with him
And so it was done.
Truth was spoke
Truth revealed.
A people saved.

 Truth

Breathe, in …. out

February 3, 2017 By Annette1 16 Comments

Today’s Five Minute Friday word prompt is the word Breathe.

Don’t know what Five Minute Friday is all about?   It’s all about community gathering around a single word, sharing our thoughts in a five minute free write.   Just letting that word soak into our brains and letting that single word spill out onto the screen in front of you. Then.. after linking up… taking time to do what I love doing… encouraging others who are spilling out as well.  🙂

So today… shall we breathe together?

….. Go….

Breathe
in …..out
It’s the way it works
One takes a breathe in
One releases that breathe.
In come the good
the needed
Out goes the old
The used.
So to is life you know
You breathe in what’s around you
What you read
what you see
what you focus on
and out it comes.
Question is
What comes out.
Is is a reflection of
what you see
what you read
what you focus on?
Or is it somehow different?
Is it better?
Is it worse?
We are told in the scriptures that
what is the heart of man
Comes out on a man’s tongue.
What is on your tongue?
Does it show what you are breathing in?
Come today.
Think on what you are breathing in
Is it good?
Is it edifying?
Is it right?
Is it useful?
Think on these things.
As you,
Breathe.
…..STOP….
