Pinks today
Fold yesterday’s blacks

Mom, have you seen?
I need my black pants!
They are folded here lad
Take them up with you next?

Mother my shirt?
The white one, I dance?
Capoiera dance fight
I practice?

Hun! That dress shirt, I need
Has it been done yet this week?
Tomorrow my love,
The lights will come next.

Load after Load
Sometimes drudgery it seems
Until I hear the need
that it fills

Clothes have a job.
I’m learning you see
You can’t do the job
If the clothes you don’t have.

Some lessons come slow
My heart no longer frowns
Thanks and the need
Heart smiles they give.

God reminds
In a still quiet voice
A help-meet I am
I can make it my choice. 🙂

Crowd, a poem

Stop, Start, stop
hesitate, look,
see the gap, move quickly
step, step, glance around
child with? Good.

Stop, catch your breath
Take a moment to look around
Ah yes, a spot, hurry scurry
Grab it, smile at the couple sitting next
Encourage lad to sit with children.

Gather self,
Sit, listen
Oh my… Listen closely
This one, this one teaches
He teaches like he KNOWS.

Quiet wonder,
Sitting with eyes closed so
as to take it all in.

He teaches, like he’s never had it taught to him
Like he knows his lesson like he knows his own self.
Amazing.

The crowd is silent
Surpised as I am
even the lad is quiet, listening
You can just see the wonder,
the knowing on his face.

This is no ordinary teacher.

Will the Rains Come?

Summer heat
Glistens off my back
Radiating warmth that fills my being
and leaves me
feeling loggy.

Humidity rises
A flinch, a drop of blood
A flying pest escapes,
Drained, and somnolent

Crackling dry grass
Cicadas sing high in the trees
Frogs ponder quietly, soaking
No lawns to mow, heat oh the heat
Will ever the rains come?

Forest fires
Panic rises, whose home is next?
Deer run, gather in farmers fields
Foxes creep  to water troughs ducking low
Birds squawk in unfamiliar territory.

Smoke, fetid and heavy
Clouding the skies
Peering into the heavens
People watching, hoping,
The flies are harbinger of good
Will the rains come?

Anniversary

Anniversary… that’s the word prompt for today, and I’ve been sitting here thinking… what in the world can I do for this word?

I can’t really do “our anniversary” since well it’s been past for about 1.5 months now.   THOUGH… did you know I’ve been married now for 16 years!  Who ever would have thought I’ve be married?   I remember my dad once telling me how surprised he was that I wasn’t the first one married and that I didn’t have a passel of children running around.  He had thought for sure I would.  And here I ended up being the last of us married (younger brother who hasn’t married) and I only have one child that I’m raising.  Not the passel… but hey.. let’s not go there tonight eh?

So I got to thinking about other anniversaries that people celebrate:

First Kiss, Job, First date, Engagement

I was reading on a site somewhere tonight a gal debating if they should celebrate five months of marriage that just happened to fall on the same date as when they first met or if they should wait to celebrate six months of marriage.

I got to thinking…How silly can people be?

Shouldn’t we celebrate something real rather than making up these little anniversaries to celebrate?  Shouldn’t an anniversary stand for something?

Like “We made it through our first year of marriage, look at how much we learned”.

“I’ve worked for this company 10 years, boy I’ve helped them along and they’ve allowed me to provide for my family”. 

“60 years.  Looking back with fondness over the years, the love shared and grown, something worth celebrating over eh?”

An anniversary is a time of looking back remembering what all has happened, the good, the bad, the sad, the sometimes ugly and the beauty of time spent.     And as you look back, it gives you a chance to see the now, then the future.   If you made it through all that is in the past…. you have a foundation to build upon.   A foundation worth living out, you know?

Ocean Contained

Thick panes
Inches think
Aquarium glass showcasing the life
Protection within
Protection without
Glossy sides
Pounding waves
Undulating motion

Fish swaying
Darting
Moving with surpassing grace
Though tangled beds
of kelp
Food for human and fish alike
Protection within
Protection without

Bright colours flash
Catch the eye
I’m here it seems this fish would cry
and hiding
Shooting into
Protection within
as with out a dark shadow looms
Gleaming eye looking
noticing that
flash of colour
that sudden movement
Attention!

Fear covers the ocean depths
Reminding that
Even though the glass is thick
The creatures within know
Protection within
Protection without
HIDE
Be seen, and yet
Don’t be.
So easy to forget
Life contained is still life.

And So We Wondered

Today was a lovely day. I was able to get some work done this morning, and then headed out for a shopping trip with my mom. We had a great time shopping and talking and then shared an ice cream after. It was so good to just sit and chat with her. It was a lovely shared time together.

Today’s five minute Friday word is restore. Come see what was drawn out of me today eh? 🙂

Sometimes
Sometimes I just want to see
To see it again
That touch of heaven
That smile that was just so heaven filled.

My Mom talking
Remembering the days
before Dad died.

It’s been a few years now
Since Dad passed away
Mom sat and talked remembering
Talking of removing the old silk flowers
from the grave.

Still in good shape
it brought her back to the wondering
Wondering how it would it have been
for Dad
Finally, after all his struggle
to have it done.

To see God face to face
Would he have given God that heavenly smile?
Would God have smiled back?
Seeing the pleasure that Dad had
meeting him face to face?

The question raised
I wonder what he looks like now
His body all restored?

Oh, I would have liked to see that
To see that joy.
Wouldn’t that have been a good thing?

And so together we remembered
We chatted
And wondered.
