Surrender

Oh, it’s been almost two years now since we used Surrender as our freewrite prompt.  Five minute Friday is all about a five-minute freewrite on a word prompt provided for us by Miss Kate.   Join us won’t you?   It’s a great time for encouragement and refreshment.

Surrender

To make a choice to give way
To yield to a stronger or smarter power.

To capitulate knowing that sometimes
It's time to raise the white flag.

Let's conceded defeat shall we?
Knowing it's time to throw in the towel.

Because it's ever so true
We don't know all the answers.

Because it's ever so true,
We cannot do it all. 

There is someone stronger and mightier. 
Who asks a simple thing of us.

Deny ourselves.
To back down from what we want.

We need to submit to a duty
We might not have asked for.

A cross to bear is what we given.
A cross to carry as we follow.

If we do this surrender thing, 
If we submit to this Lord Jesus.

An interesting thing happens.
The life that we give up.

The life that we lose
For HIS sake.

That lost life 
Becomes a life that we find.

So take a moment
Take a lifetime.

Surrender it.
Find a life worth living.

 

Hope Waits

Hope Waits, a poem about change and looking forward with HopeGradually I rememberThinking and seeing
Wondering what could be.

A glimmer of a promise
A looking to the future.
And then I got it.

Hope is springing up.
Like crocuses in the spring.
Budding flowers.

Just around the corner
There's a new adventure waiting.
I just haven't seen it yet.

Who knows.
Will it be a new job?
A new church?

Will it be nice neighbours
I can converse with over the steps?
Neighbours who share of love of God

Or perhaps will be people
Who are open to learning more
To seeing a broader picture.

Hope awaits you know?
This place where I am
Is not my final place!

God promises a brighter future
He promises to mind my every step
He's got a place waiting for me.

And in the meantime, as I wait
I know that 
Just around the corner

HOPE waits.

Intentional, a Poem

Today’s five minute Friday word is intentional.  Five minute Friday is all about a five minute freewrite on a word prompt provided for us by Miss Kate.   Join us won’t you?   It’s a great time of encouragement and refreshment.

This is a poem on what living intentionally means in the light of what God has done.

Intentional, A Poem

I quietly sit
Pondering a word
Staring at me from a
computer screen.

Intentional it says,
Tell me what it means.
How does this word
Impact you today?

Intentional means
to do it on purpose,
to think your actions through,
to have a plan
To have a reason.

What then should my intentions be?
To educate?
To study?
To boast of my accomplishments?
To what end do I write?

The longer I live
The more I see.
This life isn’t mine to determine.
Intentionally I need to seek
A higher power.

To understand this God
who created all.
This God of grace, who
also has a fierce anger.
Whose love holds me in the
palm of his hand.

This God of grace who
INTENTIONALLY sent his Son to die
Who knew from the very beginning
this sacrifice would have to be made.

So if this God,
Who I profess to love.
Could intentionally plan
the death of his own,
of his beloved boy.
What less could I give
but to choose to
INTENTIONALLY live for him?

When I think of Candies I think of

Licorice
With salt.
Dropjes.

Peach
Sweet and Sour.
Peach ring gummies.

Sherbet
Hard red bumps
Filled Raspberry Candies

Mint
Round white coins
King Peppermints

Chocolate
Candy Coating
Smarties

Nutty
Coated nuggets
Chocolate Covered Almonds

Butterscotch
Buttery Hard Squares
Boterbabbelaars

Some Kind Of Different

Some kind of different
The name of book
Popped into my head
Like drawn to a nook.

This year is almost ended,
Memories I find.
Come to the forefront
As this poem comes to mind.

I search for the words
To convey what I feel
Traditions I ponder
What makes Christmas Real?

Advent candles at home?
Readings to make?
Cookies and treats
Visit home shall I take?

What about trees,
Villages and lights?
Christmas is filled
with so many delights!

But really let’s think
What makes Christmas true?
It’s all of God’s action
What HE meant to do.

This morning we read
About the “Great Fall”
It didn’t surprise him
Not one bit at all.

All in God’s plan
His glory to show
To all of his people
Who Struggle below.

God’s mercy shines forth
In the work of his Son
By one great act of mercy
Satan’s plan was undone.

To make Christmas real
Beyond Santa’s and gifts
Consider this fact
Belief in God NOT MYTHS!

So join me today
As some kind of different we find
To make Christmas matter
To whom we are twined.

The “familiars” of my life

Familiar

I’m reading a book right now where two of the characters in it have “bond” animals.  These animals helped them do their jobs and were an intregal part of their lives.  They brought comfort and companionship.  A familiar part of their lives if you will.  🙂

So when I looked at the word familiar I thought hmm…that would be a different take on this word wouldn’t it?   To talk about “familiars”…those animals that are a distinct part of our lives.  You can think of them in witchy terms, or on fantasy terms, or you can think like I do.  Animals that are part of our lives that make a difference to how we live. 

Take for instance this fellow.  The lad chose him 9 years ago and he’s been a constant companion.  Getting a tad grumpy in his older age, but overall, a great companion for one boy child, a very familiar site to see the two of them reading on a bed together.

We got this handsome fellow at the local humane society. Our Mr. Milo was a not a cat to be left alone so when our old cat died, he became the replacement.  We needed to grow into liking each other, he liked my hubby since the day he came home and that fondness has lasted.  Mr. Chase can often be found sitting on the armchair beside hubby as he works.  He notices when it’s bed time and he’ll meet my fellow up at the bed, with a special meow just for him.  A familiar for my man you think?  🙂

Finally we come to my Wafer.  She’s not at my side but I see her once to three times a day.  She’s a flemish giant cross off my favourite doe ever named Biscuit.  She is SO not like her mother unless you get her upset with you (i.e. groom her when moulting badly).  Her mom liked only me (though my lad worked hard to win her over), but Wafer loves everyone.  She was supposed to be a breeding rabbit but proved sterile and I never found in in my heart to rehome her so she’s become a pet.  An excellent rabbit is hard to find, and Wafer is an excellent rabbit.
Now I got to add this: as much as I appreciate these “familiars” in my life…and honestly, I’d be kinda lost if I didn’t have them to care for.   There is a familiar part of my life that I’d be dead without.  That’s the saving grace of my Lord.  He is a comfort, a companion, an ever listening ear.  A teacher, a healer, the bringer of life.   He is more than any animal or anything given to me.  He’s (give me some lisence here okay)… the familiar of familiars. King of kings, Lord of Lords, prime minister of prime ministers, President of presidents.  He’s above everything and yet…and yet he stops and calls me, little old me.. one of his own.  And that is something I could not live without.

In the Silence, Remember

In the Silence of the house this morning I sit.
I ponder the word Silence.
As I ponder this chorus pops into my head:

Be still and know, that I am God
Be still and know, that I am God
Be still and know, that I am God

I NEED to remember those words you know?
Especially when my body seems to be fighting me.
And fears assail my soul.
In the end of it I need to remember this….

God is God.
He knows me full well.
He has my path fully marked out for me.
He knows what my future holds.

He holds me.
He calls me to trust
He calls me to listen
He calls me to act.
He calls me to remember.  

In the silence he reminds me.
To just be still.
To remember… that HE is God.
