Word Prompt

I Need Thee O… I Need Thee

November 3, 2017 By Annette1 8 Comments

I Need Thee O… I Need Thee
I Need Thee O… I Need Thee
Every Hour I need thee…
Oh bless me Now my Saviour
I come to thee.

I Need thee O.. I need thee
When I first wake up I need thee
My body stiff and sore, I need
Reminders of your care.
I Need Thee O… I Need Thee
At Breakfast Time I need thee
When  food choices they confound me
I am blessed, Remind me Lord of this.
I Need Thee O… I Need Thee
Homeschooling, oh it stretches
I need your patience and grace Lord
As sometimes tempers flare.
I Need Thee O… I Need Thee
When Rabbits thump, not happy
Help me to show they care Lord
When ungrateful though they seem.
I Need Thee O… I Need Thee
When the housework overwhelms me
This Household appears so helpless
Lord Let me loving be.
 I Need Thee O… I Need Thee
As review authors seem so careless
Help me Lord to honour,
The work that they put in.
I Need Thee O… I Need Thee
My bed, it seems to call me
I want to get more work done
Help me get the rest I need.
I Need Thee O… I Need Thee
Every Hour I need thee…
Oh bless me Now my Saviour
I come to thee.

This is a five minute Friday post. the word prompt is brought to us by Miss Kate over at Five Minute Friday.  What is Five Minute Friday?
Well it’s a party of a group of like minded folks who gather on Friday
to do a five minute free write around a singular word.  AND THEN (and
this is the most important part) we take the time to offer up
encouragement to each other on this writing journey.  It’s fun, though
it’s not always easy, but it is always good.   Come join us won’t you?
You are always welcome.

What I do when I Rest… READ!

October 31, 2017 By Annette1 6 Comments

You know what I do when I rest?   One of two things… colour in my colouring book and … READ.  I, if I’m totally honestly, read more than I do anything else when I am at rest.   What do you do?

So did you know that this month I took some time to rest?   I read book or two.  🙂   Not as many as I would have liked…but I read some books.

Cell by Robin Cook.   This book had me riveted.  The end just left me hanging.. made me want to shake my fist at it.  But overall, interesting book and led to a fascinating conversation twixt the lad and I.  Conversations about where technology could take us and what kind of things to be mindful of when creating them and how to safe guard people.

Once was a Time by Leila Sales.  This book I read with my lad over breakfast.   One to four chapters per day depending on how much he begged “one more mom, just one more”.   Excellent book, a review will be coming up later.  All I can say is this “Mom, tell people to read this book, it was good”.

I read something else, but hubby cleaned off my table and the book kinda.. well.. walked away somewhere. I remember liking it..but the name.. ah, slips my mind!  I’ve recently started a new Nora Roberts. AND at some point I’ll be picking my way through “Writing Tools” that I picked up at the Writer’s Conference.   55 strategies.. so that’s more than one a week for a whole year!

Ah… Janet Evanovich’s Four to Score.  Wow…this one was a bit of a wild ride and following it at times a challenge, but Stephanie is fun with an interesting Italian family.  🙂  Murder mystery with humour… I liked it.

I read a bunch of review books which.. well you know what?  Instead of me listing them off GO CHECK HERE to read those reviews.

Which ones stood out?

I particularly enjoyed “Art Up Close” and “Gobi, a little dog with a big heart“.

I read some others that will be posting over this coming month… one to watch for is Writing Radar .. my lad read this one and said it was good…I used it as part of his language arts work.  One on Backyard Chickens.. fascinating and all about chickens so it HAD to be good, and Moving with Actions & Words…. didn’t expect to like that one but I found it very interesting… so interesting in fact that sometime over the next couple of months I’ll be reviewing the ones for middle school and high school as well. (love awesome companies who help with that eh!)

Okay, now it’s your turn.
What book related posts do you have?
Read or reviewed any GOOD books lately?

Let Yourself Be Refined

October 30, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

Refine, to be changed, to have the impurities removed, to improve something.

Refiner’s Fire
My hearts One Desire
Is to be …holy
Set apart for you my master
Ready to do your will.

What are you doing?
Are you being refined?
Have you been put through any crucibles lately?  Finding some of your rough edges smoothed down, or just plain removed?
It’s fun how hard times clean us up…like being in the fire changes the glass or metal put into it.  All the gick being removed.
It’s a good thing in the aftermath, but the process isn’t always so pleasant you know?

When God looks at us, you know what he sees right?
He doesn’t see the gick being removed… he looks at the product being made.  He sees what he is aiming to make, and works it and heats it til it comes out right.

So take won’t you?  Take the refining process and let it change you.  Let it remove those impurities, that GICK from you.  Let it do it’s job.
Be what God sees… work to be that final product.

Hymn Study: Follow On

October 29, 2017 By Annette1 4 Comments

Today’s word of the day for the Write 31 Day Challenge is Follow.  So I thought I’d look for a hymn (cause it’s Sunday you know) but didn’t know one off the top of my head, so I went a hunting and found this one called Follow On (Down in the valley with my saviour I would go).  I like the upbeat tune and could probably have a lot of fun singing this song. 🙂

This Hymn was written by William Orcutt Cushing.  Born in Massachusetts in 1823, he is the author of several hymns.  He served as a minister within the Unitarian Church for 27 years, when he had to retire due to a creeping paralysis.  After finishing his ministry he asked God for another job and he found himself turned to hymn writing.  He wrote a good 300 hymns.  He kept himself useful for the Lord, dying in 1902.

Lyrics
1 Down in the valley with my Savior I would go,
Where the flowers are blooming and the sweet waters flow;
Everywhere He leads me I will follow, follow on,
Walking in His footsteps till the crown be won.
Chorus:
Follow! follow! I will follow Jesus!
Anywhere, everywhere, I will follow on!
Follow! follow! I will follow Jesus!
Everywhere He leads me I will follow on!
2 Down in the valley with my Savior I would go,
Where the storms are sweeping and the dark waters flow;
With His hand to lead me I will never, never fear,
Danger cannot fright me if my Lord is near. (Chorus)
3 Down in the valley or upon the mountain steep,
Close beside my Savior would my soul ever keep;
He will lead me safely in the path that He has trod,
Up to where they gather on the hills of God. (Chorus)

I Don’t Like Change

October 26, 2017 By Annette1 8 Comments

“But we don’t like change”, were the first words out of my hubby’s mouth when I said to him “I’m stuck, the word is change”.  And so a post was born.  🙂

change poem rhyme

 I Don’t Like Change

“I don’t like change”, the words they came
And as I said it, it came out lame.
What did it mean,to say those words?
Slipping and flitting away like birds?
Change is a memory don’t you see?
Of the way that things used to be
A memory of how it always is
Can it be changed? The question ’tis.
One little bit, a miracle happens
I see it coming, it’s like it snap ins.
Laundry on Wednesdays, oh, can it be?
It’s like something is going a little crazy!
A fancy meal on Thursday no less!
I think making change we will finesse.
It’s okay to not like change,
But it doesn’t have to define our range.
Seasons come, and seasons go.
In all of this, I know, I know.
I don’t like change, but even more.
Even more, Deep in my core.
No more static!
Cobwebs out of the attic!
Change.

Because I Said So

October 25, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

My lad and I were talking the other day about how he HATES IT when parents say do it, or stop it, or whatever it … BECAUSE I said so.  So having the word prompt gives me a chance to talk about that conversation a bit.

Because I Said So
“I hate it” he said
“I hate it indeed”
“When you or another adult
say that word to me”.
“Why,” I inquired
“Do you hate it so?”
“What’s wrong with the words
Because I say so?”
“It gives me no information,
No reason, no why.”
He explained.
“It just says because I said so”
“Ah,” I replied
“Sometimes no reason is needed
and that’s why it’s said”
No reason at all.
“But mom, that’s not fair”
My son added on
“I have to give a reason,
So why shouldn’t you”?
I acceded that my lad had a point.
If I expect one thing from him
Why should I not model the same?
And then I remembered a reason I have!
“My son, but you know, quicker
thinking you are.”
Sometimes I say “because I said so”
because my brain the reason can’t find.
And so he agreed, that reason did work
“But MOM you must try!”
And So I agreed.
Easy is not best.
So give it your all,
not the easiest way.
Teach your children WHY
A reason do give.
Because that’s how they learn.
Train up a child in the way he should go
And when he is old he will not depart from It.

Work I Do

October 23, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

“Work your fingers to the bone at the lonely Star Cafe. Money I make drives me through the week.  Pay the rent and the telephone, and buy my cigarettes, and I got a little left over to go dancing Saturday night”  Anyone know who sings it???   Cause I’ve been searching for all the lyrics without success…

I saw word work that song immediately popped into my mind.

Another song that pops into my head is this one.
“I’ve been working on the railroad, all the live long day!
I’ve been working on the railroad just to pass the time away.
Don’t you hear the whistle blowing
Rise up so early in the morning,
Can’t you hear the captain shouting..
Dinah Blow your horn!”

I know I know, lyrics stick in my head.  Sometimes I have them right, sometimes well.. I can be so UNBELIEVABLY wrong I shake my head at my foolishness when I learn how wrong I’ve been.  🙂

Work I Do

Fingers typing madly
I race to beat the clock
Can you believe this review is due at 8 o’clock?
Math? Was it workable?
The story.. did it inspire?
That “teach me to write” book do the job?
Type it out
Give an opinion
Get the job done.
Sitting back slouching
Watching the TV
LapTop sitting in front
Marking papers
Biology and Physics
Are the answers clear?
Is help needed?
Get the job done.
Thursday afternoon
Working with the buns
Clipping nails
Cleaning cages
Moving rabbits around
Playing with the babies
Snapping Pics
Website updated?
Get the job done.

Haircuts, meals
Shops unknown
Fit them in
Evaluate
Is that sign right?
Trim go well?
Happy employees
Treating customers well
Mystery Shops
Get the Job Done.
Laundry, Dishes,
Wash the floor
Help the lad
Answer questions and more
Clean the Fridge
Mind the Crickets
Get the Job Done
