Browsing songs on line and I ran across this video.   Oh… listening to the welsh just brought my heart to attention, so me being me thought.. A SUNDAY SONG!  I hope you like it as much as I did!

Written by William Rees (at least for verse 1 & 2) and William Williams (verse 3 & 4).  William Rees was Welshman who lived 1802-1883.  A farmboy turned independent minister, writer editor, and political leader.  He wrote a lot of verse and took his village school education as far as he could. He even founded the first Welsh newspaper!  

William Williams also a Welshman was unable to attain priests order to the Church of England and therefore joined the Calvinistic Methodists.  He traveled through Wales preaching and writing songs.  Several of his songs, like with Rees, have been translated into English.

We sang this chorus in Church this morning so I thought I would share it with you.  It’s rather a nice song.  Simple in details, deep in wisdom if you take time to ponder it.

Praise the Lord, Sing Hallelujah is based on Psalm 148.

With music part of his life from an early age, it’s no wonder that William J Kirkpatrick has music be part of his life.  Even though he spent time as a carpenter, his passion was for music.  He learned to play a variety of musical instruments including violin, organ, fife, pipe organ and vocal. He held a variety of positions over his life, most of them centred around his love of music.  His compositions are still well-known today.

We sang this song in church this morning so I thought I would share it with you.   It’s a quiet song filled with depth of meaning. 🙂

Sanctuary was written by Randy Scruggs & John W. Thompson. Randy Scruggs was born in 1953 and died 62 years later.  He was named CMA Musician of the Year in 1999, 2003 and 2006.  He was first recorded when he was four years old, his dad was a well known banjo player.  He wrote hits for several individuals throughout his life.   John W Thompson… couldn’t find any reliable information on him.  There are a couple of different John W Thompson songwriters but I wasn’t sure which one collaborated with Scruggs on this song.

We sang this song in church one morning. It brought me back a few years singing this song with people I cared about.  It was so good to lift our voices in praise to the Lord.  Anyways, I hope you like it. 🙂

Author is Geoff Bullock.   I expected when I plugged his name into the search bar to just learn some basic facts about him.  He’s an Australian boy, who has recorded more than 20 albums and written two books.  He was part of the rise of Hillsong. I didn’t expect to read about a story of God’s grace… Fame, leadership, loss, sin revealed, and God’s grace seen.  You can read more of his story here.

I heard this group for the first time on facebook the other day and I thought.. I KNOW that song! I can share this group and learn a bit more about this song at the same time!

I can’t tell you a whole lot about it as finding out who wrote it and what not proved a challenge.  I THINK it’s this guy: Cleavant Derricks.  Part of the problem is that it’s been rewritten and rearranged by a number of gospel writers and then they put their own stamp on it.   Anyways, Cleavant Derricks was a pastor from Tennessee.  He studied music and led gospel choirs.   He wrote more than 300 songs.  He was busy man who pastored, built churches, composed music, led choirs, wrote poems and played music.

This hymn is sometimes known for the chorus (which is lively) or by the first lyric … All praise to him who reigns above. It is obviously NOT a popular YouTube video as I couldn’t find that many on it.

William H Clark, author, wrote the lyrics, Ralph E Hudson added the refrain. Clark, a New York boy, lost his momma when he was young. His Dad remarried and his step-mom predicted one day he’d be a bishop. He served within the Methodist church, and in 1919 he became bishop within it. Some of his hymns became part of the hymnbook he helped to create.
