Embrace

March 24, 2017 By Annette1 12 Comments

Embrace
Emotions running.
I seek solace.
My father is gone.
We’re singing his song.
My heart weeps.
And God meets me.
He holds me close and tells me
It will be fine.
I’ve been raised well.
A tall strong person.
A person well loved.

 The years pass
Since that moment in church
It’s been two.
and I still recall
clearly.
The spiritual embrace.
The love of a father
for his daughter.
The love of a God
for his very own child.
That love, felt and remembered
in the embrace of a husband.
in the quick squeeze of a lad.
My heart rejoices.
In the love shared.

This is a five minute Friday post. the word prompt is brought to us by Miss Kate.  Today the word is Embrace.
What is Five Minute Friday?  Well it’s a party of a group of like
minded folks who gather on Friday to do a five minute free write around a
singular word.  AND THEN we take the time to offer up encouragement to
each other on this writing journey.  It’s fun, though it’s not always
easy, but it is always good.   Come join us won’t you?  You are always
welcome.

Family and Loyalty

The word for today is Family.  Let’s follow my brain where it goes eh?

I had a friend tell me once in college that I had too strong a loyalty to my family.   At the time I was struggling with living my life as a young adult away from home, and I thought maybe, just maybe she was right.  Otherwise why would I be struggling so much?

As I’ve matured I have to question that.

I am not sure that one can have too strong a loyalty to their family.
Family is a central part of living in my eyes.
It’s where you learn your place in the world.
It’s where you first learn manners, how to work, how to have a conversation, how to start forming your own world viewpoint.

I am not going to say that family is easy for everyone, cause not everyone comes from a stable, faith-believing family.

And even with this stable, faith-believing family we have had our issues and struggles over the years as we butt heads over different ways to live out our lives of faith.  Within those struggles though is the safety net of the love of family.

Do I have loyalty to my family….you bet your bottom dollar…it’s fierce and strong.  It’s as real and tangible to me as my love for my heavenly Father.   (if not sometimes more).  ๐Ÿ™‚   Through them I have learned the cost of love.    This has helped me in the raising of my son.

Family is ah… a good thing… not only my birth family, but also my made family.
Hubby, son, and all our critters.  This is family.  And…it is good.

Friend.. where and when

March 17, 2017 By Annette1 8 Comments

When I think of the word friend I think….

Family…
First friendships are made with family I think.  Friendships between siblings and cousins.  Later friendship with parents.   It is here we learn the give and take between people… when as child first it’s sometimes a knock down drag out type of affair, but as we get older turns into discussion, conversation and occasionally heated arguments.   But here are the foundations laid for later friendships, those bonds that include faith, similar interests, and mutual action.   (nothing like throwing hay bales around with an older sister).  ๐Ÿ™‚

Real-life…
childhood and adulthood, running around in the community brings other relationships…some of these become bond-making friendships, some just become occasional get-to-know you relationships.   I have to admit, I don’t have many.. what you’d call.. strong bond-making friendships in life.   I’ve learned to be wary as one too many people have taken what I thought was friendship and turned it into a weapon of singular destruction.

The Crew….
this year..oh..the friendships I am making on the crew is wonderful.   They aren’t the same as in the flesh let’s go out for coffee friendships.  They are the let’s see if we can catch each other on-line and chat for a while.  Learning to share hearts without the “catches” the on-line conversation can bring…you know when you type something and someone interprets it differently than you meant?  It’s great to read each others blogs and bring to the heart encouragement to each other.   It’s wonderful to have a community where you can say “let’s pray for this” or “I’m struggling with this” and offer that support to each other.   When we are no longer homeschooling I will miss that part of the crew… I really will.. but we aren’t there yet eh?  ๐Ÿ™‚

Similar Interests…
It’s been also great this year to be making friendships with similar interest groups.  Like working at the foodbank or attending rabbit shows or being part of rabbit groups on-line.  Talking and sharing with each other, teaching new ways of doing things.  T’is a goodly thing to be useful eh?   To laugh and agonize with each other.  ๐Ÿ™‚

Weather Assignments

The word for today is Weather.  Let’s follow my brain where it goes eh?

When I think about the word weather I am drawn to a course that I am marking for an education company.   In that course the students need to take a weather phenomenon and talk about it.

I then grade them on proper word usage, grammar and such like.   They need to cite their resources in the proper format and make three good paragraphs.

I’ve learned about tornadoes, hurricanes, ball lightning and more.   It’s actually quite interesting, and it gives me a glimpse into the work I can expect my lad to do in grade nine/ten.

It’s work that I actually quite enjoy until I have to give someone a poor grade…especially on tests when it’s simply because they didn’t actually READ the question they were asked (or at least it feels that way since the answer is completely different than what is expected).   I know it’s part of life right?   To lose marks when one doesn’t do the work due to failure to understand the question.   I know it’s better to learn that lesson in the early years of higher education than later on at the job site.

It still bothers me to do so.

I don’t like pointing out their weaknesses, and for the most part the students accept it, I have the odd one though who likes to argue the markings I give.  Keeps me sharp I suppose, but it’s a bit annoying too..especially when it feels like they are trying to justify themselves.

As I ponder this on a cold winter night it makes me wonder… do people do this with God too?   When God calls us out on something that we are doing that we really ought not to…. do they argue with God.. do I argue with God…trying to explain away why I did something, trying to justify my poor decision making?

Human nature I suppose… or as hubby would put it…it’s that sin in us fighting to have it’s own way.

hmm… the sin in us fighting back….trying to have its own way.

What think you?

Abandon, can we let ourselves go?

March 10, 2017 By Annette1 6 Comments

As I was pondering this word this morning my heart was aching with the fear and panic a young mom Toronto must have been feeling.  Loading her kids in the car one at a time, comes out of the house with the second to find her car stolen.  Her four year old inside.    I could only just imagine the panic she would be feeling.

The youngster was found safe and sound an hour later…but that hour… wow… so hard for that mom I’m sure.

The relief…oh the utter relief she would have felt then eh?   To have your wee one back in your care, safe and sound.

All that was in my head as I thought about the word abandon.

Abandon is an middle English word that means to give up, reject, cast away and some such world.    It also has this meaning “to yield (oneself) without restraint or moderation; give (oneself) over to natural impulses, usually without self-control”.

I read that definition and I thought..hmm… if only more people could do this.. not in the “give yourself over to grief” or the “be stupid in your happiness”…but in the abandon yourself to the love of God.   To just revel in God’s love for YOU his person, the one he has called according to his purposes, to let yourself go into the love.

I say this knowing that I find that difficult myself…..to just let go with the looseness of a child knowing their parent loves them and will keep them safe.   But wishing … oh … just wishing that I felt free to abandon myself to the love that God has for me.

What about you?

This is a five minute Friday post. the word prompt is brought to us by Miss Kate.  Today the word is Abandon.

Middle, a poem with thoughts

March 8, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

The
Homeschool Review Crew does word prompts for Instagram fun, I think
it’s great to have these words prompts for doing quick posts.  ๐Ÿ™‚   I
find them fun as sometimes it surprises me where my brain goes.  ๐Ÿ™‚   The word for today is Middle.

I am a middle child… family with six children, three boys, three girls.  the order was Two boys three girls and one boy… so I was a middle child and a middle girl.  Therefore when I saw this word prompt I wanted to do it.  ๐Ÿ™‚

What does the word middle mean?   Has so many synonyms eh?  My brain pathways:

Middle
Central
Median
Midway
Halfway
Mean
Medial
In-between
Monkey-in-the-middle
Game
Chase
Tag
Teasing
Fun
Not Fun

 No Middle Ground
Make a Choice
One or the Other
Lukewarm
Neither One or the Other
Caught halfway
The Lord tells us that he doesn’t want people caught halfway between one world and the other.  That the lukewarm believer he will SPEW out of his mouth. (Revelations 3) Can you imagine that?  To be spewn out of the mouth?   The forceful ejection that you do of something you can’t stand having in your mouth.  A bug, bad tasting food, sand … all those things that you just know you shouldn’t ingest..you spew them out violently.
It’s not a bad thing to be a middle child (though it had it tough moments) but it is bad to be a person who wants to walk a middle ground between good and evil.  You can’t do it well.  It’s like trying to serve two masters and it can’t be done.  Make up your mind… be one or the other …or at least strive with all your might eh?!
Don’t be one that the Lord spews out of his mouth.
