Word Prompt

Short, a word prompt post

February 28, 2017 By Annette1 2 Comments

The Homeschool Review Crew does word prompts for Instagram fun, I think it’s great to have these words prompts for doing quick posts.  πŸ™‚   I find them fun as sometimes it surprises me where my brain goes.  πŸ™‚

The word for today is Short.  Let’s follow my brain where it goes eh?
_____

Short
Not long
Not tall
Not average.
Just short
Short a nickel
Short a dime
Slip me a penny won’t you?
A brick short of a full load
A few screws short of a hardware store
A burger short of a combo meal.
I query this.
Is to be short bad?
Short can slip through crowds
Short can pass unnoticed.
Short can be youth.
Short can be senior.
Short is my mom.
And that is not a bad thing.
Short is different.
Short is good.
Short is easy leg room.
Short is less head bonks.
Short is not me..
Unless I am next to a tall cousin.
Which shows that
Short is totally relative. πŸ™‚

Oh to be Slow

February 24, 2017 By Annette1 12 Comments

Oh to be slow

To not be in a rush.
To take my time.

To listen.
To watch.
To see.
To really observe.

The flight of a bird.
The sound of my son’s voice.
The labour of my man.

The squeak of baby mice.
The thump of a nervous rabbit.
The crunching of food.
The chirp of a budgie.
The squeak of a wheel.

To listen.
To hear the sound of the Spirit.
To know fully the cost of the cross.
The awareness of that quiet voice within.
The roar of the lion of Judah.

Take the time.
Let it sink in.

To be slow
To take the time.
To not be in a rush.

Slow

This is a five minute Friday post. the word prompt is brought to us by Miss Kate.  Today the word is Slow.

minded folks who gather on Friday to do a five minute free write around a
singular word.  AND THEN we take the time to offer up encouragement to
each other on this writing journey.  It’s fun, though it’s not always
easy, but it is always good.   Come join us won’t you?  You are always
welcome.

Pajamas Are Optional

February 23, 2017 By Annette1 12 Comments

The
Homeschool Review Crew does word prompts for Instagram fun, I think
it’s great to have these words prompts for doing quick posts.  πŸ™‚   I
find them fun as sometimes it surprises me where my brain goes.  πŸ™‚

The word for today is Pajamas.  Let’s follow my brain where it goes eh?
_____

Pajamas are optional!

When I went to school one of my roommates didn’t wear pajamas!   WOW what a shock to this naive country girl.

For a while I steered clear of that young lady thinking how odd she was…

It took me a while to realize this fundamental truth… She was a nice girl.  She really was and we became friends (can you believe it!?!?!).  Despite our differences and the shock it was to me at the time…

So when I saw this word, that friendship came back to me and reminded me of this truth….

There are many things in life that optional.

How one approaches life.
How one appears to others.
What our attitude toward life is..
Along with ….
The food we eat.
The clothes we wear (or don’t).
The people we spend time with.
The expressions we wear on our faces.

The question we need to ask ourselves is this…
Can we love the person who is before us?

How can we look past the differences to see the person that God has created?

It’s not always an easy thing… when one is faced with unwashed bodies, a different skin tone, a manner of address, a gaping mouth, a stern expression, a hidden body clothing style, or the opposite indeed.

Seeing the person within is sometimes a challenge.
Can we see what is optional and what is important?

Something to work on together eh?

You are my strength when I am Weak

February 17, 2017 By Annette1 10 Comments

“You Are My All In All”

Na na na…holy

You are my strength when I am weak
You are the treasure that I seek
You are my all in all
Seeking You as a precious jewel
Lord, to give up I’d be a fool
You are my all in all

Taking my sin, my cross, my shame
Rising again I bless Your name
You are my all in all
When I fall down You pick me up
When I am dry You fill my cup
You are my all in all

Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your name
Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your name

You are my strength when I am weak
You are the treasure that I seek
You are my all in all
Seeking You as a precious jewel
Lord, to give up I’d be a fool
You are my all in all

Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your name
Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your name

Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your name
Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your name

Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your name
Worthy is Your name
Worthy is Your name

This song immediately popped into my head when I saw the word Weak was our word prompt for the day.
It’s funny you know.
The older I get the more I realize that God is my strength.
When I was young I knew that God could move mountains if he so desired.
I knew this.
I didn’t count on it though.
I counted on my strength and ability to see me through by the end of the day.
But as I mature… I’m a whole 51 years old eh… I see more of God in action.
As  he helps me through a day when I feel grumpy because my body is yelling at me.
His strength keeps me from yelling at the lad or making hubby feel horrid just because I do.
Knowing that he has my back helps me from feeling discouraged when an highly anticipated litter of bunnies proves to not come about, or dies, or a possum gets into the rabbitry and wrecks havoc.
These small things help me to rest secure when bigger things happens like church closures and job searches begin.
I can’t say that I always rest easy (because that would be a lie) but it helps me to rest more secure that in the end, God will work it out.

Thoughts on being …. safe

February 10, 2017 By Annette1 14 Comments

Thoughts on Being
Guarded
Protected
Strong walls
Words
Hugs
Cocoon
Shelter
Love
Challenge
Guidance
Learning
Community
Tended
Watched
Minded full well
Guided risks
A haven
Time given
Boundaries
Rules
Laws
A shield
Made
Delivered
Loved
Sacrifice
Risen
Safe

Breathe, in …. out

February 3, 2017 By Annette1 16 Comments

Today’s Five Minute Friday word prompt is the word Breathe.

Don’t know what Five Minute Friday is all about?   It’s all about community gathering around a single word, sharing our thoughts in a five minute free write.   Just letting that word soak into our brains and letting that single word spill out onto the screen in front of you. Then.. after linking up… taking time to do what I love doing… encouraging others who are spilling out as well.  πŸ™‚

So today… shall we breathe together?

….. Go….

Breathe
in …..out
It’s the way it works
One takes a breathe in
One releases that breathe.
In come the good
the needed
Out goes the old
The used.
So to is life you know
You breathe in what’s around you
What you read
what you see
what you focus on
and out it comes.
Question is
What comes out.
Is is a reflection of
what you see
what you read
what you focus on?
Or is it somehow different?
Is it better?
Is it worse?
We are told in the scriptures that
what is the heart of man
Comes out on a man’s tongue.
What is on your tongue?
Does it show what you are breathing in?
Come today.
Think on what you are breathing in
Is it good?
Is it edifying?
Is it right?
Is it useful?
Think on these things.
As you,
Breathe.
…..STOP….

Poem: Control

January 27, 2017 By Annette1 10 Comments

 Control
Child young
trust the folks
mostly
get a fright at
God loss
Keep control
for fear at bay
Control paramont
to not being
noticed.
Teenager control
I fought
I yelled
God and I
battled
head to head
feeling daily.
Young Adult Control
I made choices
I stayed away
I strayed
I fought.
God stayed constant.
I frowned .. A LOT.
Gradually.
Surely
God gained Control
Middle age
I fight
I struggle
I give way.
I learn.
And so control
Is given away
And a peace
a contentment
is found.
Less frowning.
less struggling
more surety
more security.
Control isn’t mine
Control is where it belongs
God.

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 8 Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen.  1 Peter 5.

Kate Motaung hosts a word prompt every Friday.   She gives us a word and a whole whack of people write for about five minutes.  A free write on a Single Word Prompt and it’s fascinating to see where it takes people and how they approach it.    THEN the most amazing thing happens, people take the time to read what each other wrote and be an encouragement to each other.   It’s great!   It’s no small wonder that we keep coming back.  Won’t you join us?   Today the word is CONTROL.

Bless my dear friend Lori who put the graphic together for me.  WONDERFUL job.  πŸ™‚  THANKS!
