Word Prompt

Days of December: Peace

December 4, 2016 By Annette1 Leave a Comment

When I thought about the word peace this morning, this song immediately popped into my head.

Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father
Brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.
Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment
And live each moment
With peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth,
And let it begin with me.

Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.
Let there be peace on earth
The peace that was meant to be.
With God as our Father
Brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me
Let this be the moment now.
With every step I take
Let this be my solemn vow.
To take each moment
And live each moment
In peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.

This song was written by Vince Gill.

As I hummed it, letting the words run through my mind, I started to think about those words “And let it begin with me”.
I started to feel bothered by them.
Peace doesn’t begin with me.   It doesn’t.  It can play out through my actions and attitude, but it really doesn’t begin with me.  It begins with God, from the very beginning of time.
Adam and Eve sinned, and God promised this, that even though there would forever be conflict between man and Satan, between man and God…that Satan might bruise our heels but we shall bruise his head.  Throughout scripture we can find references to how God will best Satan, and in Revelations we see that truth fully revealed.   So Satan HAS been beaten (it just hasn’t been fully completed yet).   and I fear I am not saying this all correctly….so work more with my thoughts than my words.   If that makes sense.  ๐Ÿ™‚
Will there truly be peace on earth until that final day?
No.  There can’t be.  God promised in Genesis 2
I will put enmity between you and the woman,
    and between your offspring and her offspring;
he shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel
So until one or the other is destroyed, there will be no peace.  Enmity means no peace.
BUT peace is still hoped for and longer for and sought after.
Peace can still be seen in small part in the things we say and do and how we live.
We don’t have to fight and make war and what not.
Peace, can be seen and lived in part, and shows as if in a mirror dimly, what will come.

What I Crave

December 2, 2016 By Annette1 8 Comments

When I saw this word prompt this morning you know what popped into my head?

Yup.   Tootsie rolls.
The local dollarama sells 2, 2 packs for $1.   This is not a good thing.

When I am ill, or tired, or grumpy, or just generally out of sorts, this is what I crave.

I also crave other things like doritos, Mr. Big chocolate bars, and hickory sticks.   But mostly… Tootsie rolls.

I’ve been sick a lot these past two months.  Cold, flu, pneumonia, generalized exhaustion, and persistent cough.j

ALL that weight I lost (to help with my overall health)…. well…it’s kinda crept back because… As much as I love tootsie rolls…they certainly like to stick around.

I will have work to do again eh?

I really really need to learn how to get my comfort in other ways.
From reading scripture, to talking with friends, to just relaxing with my family…. but what do I do?
I want a tootsie roll.

How does one break that cycle?
Especially when one doesn’t feel well and the whole world feels like ick because well “I” feel like ick?

I know it doesn’t help that my hubby is the same way… he loves his pastries when he’s ill/tired/out of sorts just like I love my tootsie rolls…

It does sometimes confound me though.   God calls me to be BEYOND my temptations.   But this one… this one I don’t know how to beat.

Thoughts?

Days of December: Weather

December 1, 2016 By Annette1 Leave a Comment

It’s a new month, a new set of Word Prompt Challenges!   YEAH!!!!

Today’s word, as you can see, is Weather.

As I sit here on the first of December, outside my window I see a grey sky, it was snowing a bit when I went out to do the rabbits, but now it’s settled into a bit of wind and a touch of cold rain.  Don’t know that we’ll get more snow today or not.

BUT we have had snow. This year, snow is rather exciting.   We have this great 15 year young man from Brazil living with us.  I wanted to show you what he did with our first snow fall of the year.

I LOVE his smile.   This boy is so quiet and so honest about things.  He tries hard to a nice and good lad.   I rarely see his smile of complete delight, and here I have a smile of complete delight.   Does my heart good looking back at this picture.

My lad, when he saw our visiting lad out busy building, couldn’t stop himself (despite his hard cough and cold) from going out and joining him.

The two boys had enough gumption left after the exertions to have an impromptu snow ball fight.  My lad quickly ran in the house when he learned our student has way better aim than he does and a cold snowball on bare legs wasn’t his idea of fun.  ๐Ÿ™‚   Made me laugh.

Tell me, dear reader, what weather makes you smile lately?

Days of November: Decorate

November 30, 2016 By Annette1 2 Comments

My dear sweet man is aching to decorate the house.  (more accurately to put up the tree).

He’s having to deal with a wife who is easily exhausted, so making space to put the tree is a bit beyond him without my help.

I feel badly for him.

You see…I know what it’s like to be aching to decorate, to get the Christmas stuff up and organized.   I am sure you do to eh?

So as I listen to him asking, so where do you think we can get a tree, or what do you think about putting it here?   Right now all I think is… wow…sounds like a lot of work…and I don’t wanna.   But I don’t tell him that.

I don’t tell him that when I think about putting up my village it just makes me feel sad inside, wondering if I’ll have the energy to do it and I SO LOVE to put up my village you know?  I really do.

It makes it feel like Christmas, and it’s fun to move things around and have the villagers kicking around doing things, or finding a new piece I can add and see if anyone notices….

It’s one of my traditions.   This year I was hoping to find a couple more pieces for my choir.   Wouldn’t it be neat to have a trombone player??   (if I can find it again, saw one once and thought COOL, but well you know, you don’t always have the funds for it eh?

We will decorate this year, just not sure when or how… but some time we’ll get it done.  Maybe by end of week I’ll have more energy again…wouldn’t that be wonderful!   TREE TIME!!!!!  Yes, I do want tree time… this year I may have the boys do most of the work.  Building memories…a good thing that eh?

Days of November: Lesson

November 28, 2016 By Annette1 Leave a Comment

This post is part of my Days of November series.  You can find the rest of the days here.

Lesson Learned

I’ve watched others you know
with Pneumonia.
Thinking they look tired.
So letting them rest.

But it’s not the same.
The understanding isn’t there.

Until.

One has it themselves.
Then one intimately understands
The shortness of breath
The lack of desire.
The inability to move and
Breathe well at the same time.

Lessons learned.
Lessons remembered.

God only gives us what we can bear.
And so far I bear.

A husband caring, doing the dishes. ๐Ÿ™‚
A boy loving, bringing me tea and blankets.
A group of friends praying, holding me to the Lord.

This bearing I can do.
As I sit and rest.
And re-discover a truth.
When one sits and loudly breathes.
And the house is quiet.

One can lift up
A boy struggling with accident results.
A young lad struggling with cancer.
A mom missing a daughter off at school.
A church in the throes of closing.
A friend in need of the Lord.
A friend’s husband recovering from surgery.

These things that so often get a fleeting prayer.
That when one is sitting and feeling useless.
Longer prayers can be made.
And this lesson.

It is GOOD.

Five Minute Friday: Surrender

November 26, 2016 By Annette1 Leave a Comment

Surrender.

When I hear this word I think of the book of Ezekiel that I am reading through.   I am currently a little less than half way through this Old Testament book.

Ezekiel is surprising me.
God is angry, oh so angry at the start of Ezekiel.
He wants to punish the people, they are colluding with the enemy (so to speak).
He’s angry and wants the people to know one very important thing.

I AM THE LORD GOD and there is no one else like me.

He punishes and corrects the people.
I am now at the point where God has told the people how he will gather them in.  He will gather then in so that they will no longer profane his name.

And he tells them I am the Lord God.   And THAT is what he wants them to know.

HE is the Lord God there is none other.

So when I read about people questioning God’s will it makes me sorrow.

We have God’s word in our hands, at least us Christians AUGHT to have God’s words in our hands.
We should be able to learn from our past and see how God ALWAYS carries his people through.
It’s not always easy that carrying through, but he does carry us through.

And to the end purpose… So that we will know that HE is the Lord God.
HE.. not me.
HE…not my neighbour, my prime minister/president, my country collective voting rights,

HE is the Lord God.
He has it all Covered.

And knowing that…. should we not surrender ourselves to that fact?
Should we not look at history (particularly biblical history) and see that truth.

He is Lord God.  He and NO other.

Surrender to the knowledge today…you’ll do better for doing that.

Surrender is the word prompt provided for us by Kate.

Haven, a Five Minute Friday inspired Post

June 7, 2016 By Annette1 2 Comments

Kate over at Heading Home hosts Five Minute Friday, a weekly word prompt.   A group of folks gather once a week to give their thoughts, in about five minutes, on a given word prompt that changes weekly.   Everyone comes up with something different it seems.

I have to admit, I’ve been pondering this word prompt for a couple of days now…Trying to think what the word haven means to me.   It’s not an easy word.

And then…I thought of my front garden.
How it’s an overgrown mess….but of how a wee child stopped and saw my cat hiding in the tulips.
And then she saw my chicken, and my bunny and….

She talked and pointed it out to her mama, and her mama pointed out the flowers, and bugs that I have hidden there as well.

My heart smiled.

I got to thinking about how my front garden is a haven for young mom’s.  I put tons of things in there to make children look and see, I give mom’s permission to come and close and take a moment or three with their littles and just see and smile and look, and if needed, pick a flower or two.   It’s all good, and it brings a smile to many a face.  ๐Ÿ™‚

It may not be a haven of rest, but I do hope it a haven of connectivity.   We need to connect with each other, to bring a smile or two to the face and hearts of others, don’t you think?

So, the linky closes up in another couple of days.  What’y’say… want to join in the party and write on the word haven yourself?   If you, let me know, and in the spirit of the party, I’ll come over and visit you too!  ๐Ÿ™‚

Cheerio!
