Share life with an international student

International student
Comes with wide eyes!
Some fear, some excitement
What is in store for him here?

A new Land, a new people
What kind of food?
A new room? A bed?
Or maybe on the floor?

A new flag?
Maple leaves!
Red and white
not yellow, green and blue.

A new school?
My teacher, says I come play baseball?
I hear people speak good Portuguese!!!!
but I learn English!

Youth group
HEY! Your ride is here?
Oh I go with him?
I have fun!

I’m going to a wizardry weekend?
You want to come?
We volunteer and then go have fun
YES.

This weekend it is
Thanksgiving to share
A new holiday to see
Turkey and taters!

Family, come meet
My new son for five months
Conversation and laughter
Welcoming grins.

Games to play
Uno a hit!!!
Play every night?
Uh.. let’s try another for a bit. 🙂

Homeschooling what is?
The question is asked
So off to a teen night
Fun to be had!

I heartily recommend
an International student to have
Share ideas, share laughter
New experiences to be had.

Alone, working nights
Raising mice, and wee piggies,
Life seemed perfect except
I needed a friend,
Someone who would understand,
who could listen about my wanting deepness
with God and struggling with what my church taught me.

Enter a man, with a wimpy dog
My dog beat him up (tried) when they first met.
Friendship formed. Hearts listened.
Completeness
Yet, not quite

A lad came along
A talkative fellow who made noises
at me all day long even as a youngster, and
now a young man growing, chatter fills our days
Completeness
Yet, not quiteComplete, a poem

God keeps calling
Reminding me, showing
Gathering me in, Beckoning,
Examples in disciples of long ago.
Remembering, and then telling.
Completeness?
Not sure.

Then as I ponder I see
Rabbits…the joy of critters
The lad… the wonder of learning and growth
The hubby…the steadiness and push to be more.
And before I know it.. I see it.
The completeness the Lord has given
Different pieces that aren’t quite enough
and rounded out
These gifts of God
Along with the calling and the showing and the teaching
Gives me what I need
to be
Complete.

Crowd, a poem

Stop, Start, stop
hesitate, look,
see the gap, move quickly
step, step, glance around
child with? Good.

Stop, catch your breath
Take a moment to look around
Ah yes, a spot, hurry scurry
Grab it, smile at the couple sitting next
Encourage lad to sit with children.

Gather self,
Sit, listen
Oh my… Listen closely
This one, this one teaches
He teaches like he KNOWS.

Quiet wonder,
Sitting with eyes closed so
as to take it all in.

He teaches, like he’s never had it taught to him
Like he knows his lesson like he knows his own self.
Amazing.

The crowd is silent
Surpised as I am
even the lad is quiet, listening
You can just see the wonder,
the knowing on his face.

This is no ordinary teacher.

Will the Rains Come?

Summer heat
Glistens off my back
Radiating warmth that fills my being
and leaves me
feeling loggy.

Humidity rises
A flinch, a drop of blood
A flying pest escapes,
Drained, and somnolent

Crackling dry grass
Cicadas sing high in the trees
Frogs ponder quietly, soaking
No lawns to mow, heat oh the heat
Will ever the rains come?

Forest fires
Panic rises, whose home is next?
Deer run, gather in farmers fields
Foxes creep  to water troughs ducking low
Birds squawk in unfamiliar territory.

Smoke, fetid and heavy
Clouding the skies
Peering into the heavens
People watching, hoping,
The flies are harbinger of good
Will the rains come?

When will the rains come?

Loyal, a favourite

Today is Friday Favourites and we are supposed to talk about the things that we love in our homeschool… books, traditions, curriculum and the like.   Well sorry, it’s NOT going to happen!  🙂  For that past I DO NOT KNOW how long, every single Friday I take part in a Five Minute Friday link up.   We get a word, and we talk about it for five minutes.  I used to time myself to the dot and stop but I don’t do that anymore.  I have a running clock in my head now.  (at least that’s what I tell myself!)    Grinning.

Anyways, today’s word in Loyal.  I’ll see if I can somehow tie it in to schooling okay?  🙂  I almost always do a poem, though sometimes I digress.   Today I need to let my heart sing, so poetry it is. 

Loyal, a poem. 

Faithful
One who holds the faith
Can be counted on

Devoted
You know their heart
Emotion sits waiting.

Constant
Day to day, hour by hour
Minute by Minute.

Steadfast
Clip Clop, Step by Step
Ever holding, ever forward motion
Stand the line

Reliable
You know they will be there
Steady as a clock

Trustworthy
Respect in leaps and bounds
Knowing the job will be done

Dedicated
Bending over, reaching down
Time taken to show
The Cross

Unchanging
Well, not in this schoolroom
Love holds constant though.

Unwavering
Logic, think, use your brain
Nice job, thinking it through
Praise

Unswerving
The path before,
Light the way, Show it, This way.
No side trails leading backwards.

True
Speak it, Live it, show it
Teach it, show how to argue it.
Listen for it always.

Loyal
Remain at your side
Standing firm
Looking ahead
Remembering yesterday
STAY.

STOP, hold on…the word today is not love…it’s LOVED.  And loved is different than love.

John 3:16 states this:  For in this way God loved the world, so that he gave his one and only Son, in order that everyone who believes in him will not perish, but will have eternal life.

Beaten
Carrying
Hardship Managed

Horror
Shame
Anger
Hatred
Bearing it

Scattered clothing
Not there
Fear abides

See, it’s written
Words from past
Clarity for today
Walking, Talking
Loved

Laughter rings
Throughout the house
As Sit-com man
Feels like a louse

Time and time and time again
It’s always made
the fault
The Man

Sometimes I sit and ponder hard
What makes it funny?
Are men truly marred?

Why does the world
Show it so
Woman Right
Woman Smart.

Expense of men
Young or old it seems to be
Making fun of him
Not we.

But how we laugh
The Joke is fun
Sometimes I wonder
Is the joke really done?
